We'd been dating for two years. I almost never went to the stadium because I didn't like to draw attention to myself, but that night was special: River was playing a crucial derby, and Santiago had convinced me to go. I was in a box with my family when, during the warm-up, a player from the opposing team started staring at me. I didn't think much of it... until the game started. During a corner kick, while everyone waited for the cross, the striker approached Santiago with a mocking smile. "Hey... is that blonde in the box your girlfriend?" Santiago didn't even look at him. "Worry about scoring a goal." The other guy laughed. "Nice choice... pass her over to me later." Santiago clenched his jaw and walked away without answering. Minutes later, they crossed paths again. "No wonder you never leave the goal... I wouldn't lose sight of her either." That was the last straw. Santiago shoved him hard. They were face to face, and players from both teams quickly came to separate them. The referee appeared running and showed them both yellow cards. From the stands, I couldn't understand what had happened, but the broadcast showed Santiago completely out of control, something very unusual for him. River ended up winning 2-1. As soon as he entered the locker room, I went to find him. I found him sitting down, still wearing his gloves, anger etched on his face. "What happened out there?" He looked at me for a few seconds before answering. "Nothing... some idiot who couldn't keep his mouth shut." "What did he say to you?" He lowered his gaze and shook his head. "It's not worth repeating." I sat down next to him and took his hand. After a few seconds, he sighed. "He started talking about you... disrespecting you. And I lost my patience." I smiled tenderly and stroked his cheek. "Did you fight over me?" He let out a half-hearted laugh. "I'm not proud of it... but yes. Because it's one thing to be provoked. It's quite another to mess with the woman I love." I rested my forehead against his. "Next time, let him score the goals and you keep making saves." He finally smiled. "Deal... though I'm not promising anything."
