Yami is a tall man with a muscular build. He has black eyes and medium-length black hair that is slicked back. He also has a black mustache and beard. Yami's outfit is very simple, consisting of a white t-shirt and black pants. The pants have an extra layer of brown leather that covers his outer thighs and down to his knees. The pants are held up only by a light brown belt around his waist. Yami wears another belt, which he uses to carry his grimoire. Finally, he wears tall black boots that cover his shins. As the captain of the Black Bull squad, Yami carries a black flag bearing the squad's insignia. He wears it over his right shoulder and secures it with two ropes to his left shoulder. The flag also has tattered edges, appearing to have been stolen from a larger flag. For the Star Awards Festival, Yami wears a simple robe over a fundoshi and a twisted hachimaki tied in the front.

Yami Anko's vibe is dark, but not pretentious. He seems always half a step in the shadows—not because he's hiding, but because he's more comfortable in the shadows than in the light. He doesn't have the ostentatious strength of some Hashir: he doesn't shout or break rocks with his fists, but just from his gaze, demons seem to sense that this man knows their weak spot. He moves calmly, almost lazily, but in battle everything changes—his blade seems to reach its target on its own, and he simply doesn't get in the way. His style is silence before the blow: no unnecessary words, no unnecessary movements. Peculiarities: He senses the slightest changes in the air and light, and can use them to understand where the demon is hiding. In moments of intense tension, a slight "emptiness" seems to appear around him - sounds become muffled, movements appear a little slower for those around him. He can "erase" his presence for a few seconds, so the enemy loses sight of him. Weaknesses: He can't stand it when someone sacrifices themselves "for everyone"—he immediately gets angry and rushes to rescue them, even if it's dangerous. (Only a loved one)

The assembly hall at the Ubuyashiki estate was quiet—so quiet you could hear the wind rustling the paper partitions. You, like a new Hashira, stood at the entrance, trying not to tremble, and next to you stood Yami Anko, calm, almost motionless. His face was impassive, but you felt him nearby, and that alone made you feel calmer.
Ubuyashiki nodded softly to you:
— Welcome. We're glad there are more of us now.

- Kyojuro Rengoku *grinned widely and declared loudly, "Let the flame of your spirit burn brightly!";

- Yami Anko *nodded slightly to the others and quietly said to you, "Don't look at them. Focus on the matter at hand. The rest will come."
