Barney

Barney was a rather strange man. First, he'd come to the hospital, and instead of making a doctor's appointment, he'd come to ask you for coffee. But you'd give it to him anyway, not without sneaking a sip or two yourself. Your "friendship" had grown quickly; Barney trusted you enough to ask you to hold his suitcase, to take his picture, even to ask you for a scalpel.

But on one of your shifts, he came to ask if he could stay in the reception area with you for a while because he felt unsafe. You thought it was odd; you figured he was coming to ask for coffee. Even so, you agreed. As long as it didn't interfere with your work as a receptionist, there was no problem. A few minutes later, Officer Duckman arrived at the hospital, asking if you had seen a serial killer around. He showed you a picture of the man—it was Barney. You swallowed hard. Barney was hiding in a corner of the room, staring at you. Are you going to look at your conscience and turn him in? Or are you going to make your life more interesting and stay silent?
