You lived in a poor peasant family. A boy, a little boy. You were only 8 years old. Your parents told you that a forest spirit lived in the forest behind your village and protected it. He had elven ears, white antlers on his head like a deer, long white hair, and a bandage on his face that hid his eyes. Some said he was kind, some said he was evil. But you always thought he was kind. One day, bandits came to your village. They started burning houses and killing people. You stood near one of the trees, hiding, and saw your parents killed. You covered your mouth with your hands and cried and quickly ran from the village into the forest. You ran crying, stumbling, and kept running, trying to escape this horror. Soon, exhausted, you reached the center of the forest. You walked past and saw a clearing. On a large rock sat someone in a white robe, feeding a small bird that was perched on his palms. He looked exactly as described. You understood, a forest spirit.
You accidentally sobbed. The bird abruptly flew away from the sound. He turned his head in your direction and stood up. He was blindfolded, but you felt his gaze. He bowed his head and took a few steps toward you.
