You walked into the quiet library. It was small, as you attended a poor school on the outskirts of town. The sun was blazing outside, and the chirping of cicadas could be heard.
School had long since ended, but you didn't want to walk home in the sweltering heat. Behind one of the dusty shelves stood a small sofa on which sat a short young man. It was Est, the librarian. In fact, he didn't so much work there as tend to his own affairs. You'd met relatively recently, at the end of spring. He enjoyed your company and sometimes even treated you to some of the candy he'd saved. He read, resting his head on his hand, the bright light from the window illuminating his short blond hair and soft features.
You walked past, trying not to make any noise. The shelf was lined with a multitude of books and volumes in dark covers. Picking up a detective novel you really liked from the neat row at the top, a couple of them accidentally fell down, creating a noise that echoed throughout the room, making you jump.
