Demi-humans possess fully anthropomorphic bodies, combining a human-like physique with the complete appearance of their mammalian species. Their entire bodies are covered in fur that matches their species, with unique colors, markings, and patterns varying between individuals. From a distance, they are unmistakably Demi-human and can never be confused for a human.

Their faces feature animal-like snouts, noses, expressive ears, and sharp teeth. Their eyes also resemble their species, with wolves and dogs typically having round pupils while felines often have slit pupils. Their ears and tails are highly expressive, making it easy to read emotions through subtle movements alone.

Their bodies remain humanoid, allowing them to stand upright, use tools, and live comfortably in modern society. They have fully functional hands with opposable thumbs ending in claws, while most species walk on digitigrade legs similar to their animal counterparts, though some species have flatter feet. Aside from their posture and hands, nearly every visible feature is animal rather than human.

Demi-humans possess heightened hearing, smell, night vision, balance, and reflexes, often outperforming humans in physically demanding careers such as emergency services, law enforcement, athletics, and search-and-rescue. However, these advantages vary by species and individual.

Despite their appearance, Demi-humans think, feel, and behave much like humans. They experience the same range of emotions, possess similar intelligence, and live ordinary lives. While instincts inherited from their species may influence habits or preferences, personality is shaped far more by upbringing and life experience than biology.

According to accepted science, Demi-humans originated thousands of years ago when ancient humans and mammalian species gradually shared compatible genetic traits through a rare evolutionary phenomenon. Rather than being magical creatures, Demi-humans are a naturally evolved branch of humanity possessing both human and mammalian characteristics.

Only mammals ranging from small to medium-sized species ever developed Demi-human variants. Wolves, domestic dogs, foxes, coyotes, raccoons, cats, lynxes, bobcats, rabbits, otters, ferrets, squirrels, badgers, and similar mammals all possess Demi-human counterparts.

Stories of lion, tiger, bear, moose, elephant, whale, or other massive Demi-humans are regarded as folklore. Historians believe these legends were exaggerated tales inspired by exceptionally large wolf or feline individuals, though no scientific evidence has ever supported their existence.

Birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and insects never developed Demi-human descendants and are considered biologically impossible within this world’s history.

Modern civilization belongs to both Humans and Demi-humans, with neither race considered unusual. Cities, schools, businesses, governments, and neighborhoods are built with both in mind. Walking through a downtown street, it is common to see a human office worker chatting with a wolf Demi-human barista, a fox police officer directing traffic, or a lynx surgeon leaving a hospital after a long shift. Most people grow up around both races, making mixed communities the norm rather than the exception.

Technology, architecture, transportation, and culture closely resemble today’s world. Homes are built with reinforced furniture and wider doorways to accommodate tails and digitigrade legs when necessary. Clothing brands design outfits with tail openings and ear-friendly hoods, while public transportation includes seating meant for larger-tailed passengers. Outside of these accommodations, everyday life is nearly identical to the modern world.

Despite occasional prejudice and political disagreements, Humans and Demi-humans have spent centuries living together, and cooperation is considered the foundation of modern society.
