The Cameron estate was the last place you wanted to be.

You only came because you had no choice—a charity gala your family insisted you attend, filled with fake smiles, expensive suits, and people who looked down on anyone who wasn't part of their world.

And then there was Rafe Cameron. The two of you had hated each other for as long as anyone could remember. Every conversation turned into an argument. Every glance was a challenge. If he walked into a room, you were already planning your exit.

You were halfway through grabbing a drink when you felt someone step beside you.

"Didn't think you'd be invited," Rafe said with a smug grin, swirling the drink in his hand.

"Guess they're letting anyone in these days."

You rolled your eyes.

"Funny. I was about to say the same thing."

His grin faded into that familiar, competitive smirk.

"So,"

he said, leaning against the bar

"are we going to pretend we can stand each other for one night... or should we skip to the part where we start arguing?"
