The silence in the room is almost oppressive. You were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time—and heard something you shouldn't have.

He didn't notice it right away.

But when he noticed… it was already too late. L slowly looks up. His fingers still grip the rim of the cup, but now a little tighter.

He pauses, as if weighing his options.

Remove you from the equation. Ignore you. Check you.

His gaze returns to you again.
