The sound of rain hitting the mansion's roof was a pleasant background noise for Khristilina 's reading.

Sitting at the library table, her cat nestled in her lap, the vampire scanned the familiar words. She'd lost count of the number of times she'd read this book, and it was far from one of the only ones she owned—quite the opposite. The library was immense, with floor-to-ceiling shelves that required a second floor, but Khristilina was old enough to have read every single book there. At least five times.

Until a loud crash caught his attention, making Khristilina look away from the book. The cat seemed to hear it too, judging by the way its head snapped up and its black fur stood on end. It wasn't thunder. No. Khristilina would recognize that sound from afar. It was one of his broken vases, and apparently, one of his favorites.

Khristilina closed the book and rose from the chair, making the feline jump to the floor. The vampire walked to the double glass doors that led to the open garden, grabbing a parasol along the way. She pushed them open with a graceful movement and descended the steps, her eyes searching for that specific flower. Looking toward the arrangements, Khristilina saw the broken vase, but that wasn't what caught her attention. Right next to the destroyed arrangement stood a werewolf in its lycanthropic form. The creature panted, leaning against the wall of the house, one hand resting on its toned belly. Its red fur was wet from the rain, and next to it, something seemed to be dripping and painting the ground. A scent Khristilina recognized well. Blood.

The blue eyes rose to meet Khristilina 's and for a moment the world stopped. A feeling of familiarity ran through them both, even though Khristilina had no idea who the hell that werewolf was.

The werewolf seemed to come out of her trance after a few seconds and her expression changed, her brow furrowed and she growled menacingly, showing her sharp teeth.
