Biography of Senjuro Rengoku
Senjuro Rengoku: Age: 14 years old. He is Kyojuro's younger brother. Unlike his lineage of Flame Hashira, he lacks combat talent and decided to support the demon slayers through his studies. Biography: He suffered the death of his mother and the abuse of his alcoholic father. He tried to become a swordsman, but his Nichirin blade never changed color. After meeting Tanjiro, he accepted his true potential and began researching the family diaries to help in the fight against Muzan. Appearance: Height: 1.51m; Spiky yellow hair with red tips (in the shape of flames) and drooping eyes that express shyness. He is thin, short in stature, and wears a plain light-colored kimono, without combat attire. Personality: Kind, humble, and possessing a pure heart. Despite suffering from low self-esteem and crying easily, he demonstrates great mental strength to overcome grief and resilience to help others in his own way.
Appearance and Biography of Shinjuro Rengoku
Shinjuro Rengoku: 45 years old, 1.75m: tall and strong, with yellow hair with red tips, yellow eyes with red pupils, thick, forked eyebrows, and stubble; wears a dark, loose yukata. Former Flame Hashira of the Rengoku family: honorable and protective, he saved Obanai and introduced Gyomei to the organization. He abandoned everything after the death of his wife Ruka and upon discovering that Flame Breathing was derived from Sun Breathing, sinking into depression and alcoholism. He became bitter and rude to his sons Kyojuro and Senjuro, saying that effort is worthless—but deep down he is afraid of losing them too.
Kanao Tsuyuri Biography
Kanao Tsuyuri: Age: 16 years. Height and Weight: 1.56 m, 46 kg. Affiliation: Demon Slayer Corps. Master: Shinobu Kocho. Fighting Style: Flower Breathing. Sword Color: Light Pink. Tragic Past: Kanao was born into an extremely poor and violent family. From a young age, she suffered constant physical and psychological abuse; to protect herself, she developed a defense mechanism: she completely shut down her emotions, ceasing to react, feel, or make her own decisions. When she was still a child, her parents sold her into slavery. Tied up and being taken away, she was found and rescued by Kanae and Shinobu Kocho, who bought her freedom, gave her the name "Kanao Tsuyuri," and took her into the Butterfly House. Even safe, she couldn't act for herself. Kanae then gave her a coin: "If you can't decide, flip it; heads yes, tails no — but never forget to listen to your heart." Personality: Initially, she is quiet, expressionless, and completely dependent on orders or the coin. Gradually, thanks to Tanjiro's kindness and the affection of the Kocho sisters, she learns to recognize her feelings and trust herself. Skills and Techniques: She possesses extremely sharp vision, capable of predicting movements and perceiving details imperceptible to others. She mastered the Flower Breathing, derived from Water Breathing, with these forms: 1st Form: Peony Head — quick and precise cut, 2nd Form: Feathered Shadow — defense with sword spins, 3rd Form: Purple Firefly — agile and evasive movement, 4th Form: Crimson Flower Cloak — curved and penetrating cut, 5th Form: Nine Peonies — sequence of nine intertwined strikes, 6th Form: Whirlwind Peach — attack during dodging. Biography: Final Selection: She participates along with Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Genya, being one of those approved. Butterfly House: Trains and assists in the treatment of the wounded; gets to know Tanjiro deeply, who encourages her to decide for herself—at which point she flips a coin and chooses to follow her heart.
Appearance and Biography of Amane Ubuyashiki
Amane Ubuyashiki: 27 years old, human, also called Amane Himorogi. Wife of Kagaya Ubuyashiki, mother of 5 children; priestess and member of the Demon Slayer Corps. Appearance: White hair in a ponytail, lavender eyes; wears a salmon kimono and a blue haori with butterflies. Personality and attitudes: Calm, dedicated to the squad and extremely devoted to her husband—when she sees his health worsening, she shows great affection and concern. She was a loving and demanding mother. History: She met Kagaya at age 17 (he was 13), and willingly agreed to marry him to take care of him. Abilities: Leadership capable of commanding the Hashira; excellent medical knowledge, she cares for her husband and saved the gravely wounded Muichiro.

Hashira appearance: red makeup on his left eye, silver hair tied back, headband with jewels, sleeveless uniform, gold accessories, and twin swords linked by a chain. Natural appearance: loose hair, no adornments, simple clothes. History: Left a clan of cruel ninjas, taking his three wives with him. Joined the Squad to protect people, created the Sound Breathing technique. Personality: Uses extravagance as a mask; in reality, he is humble and protective. His priority: wives > innocents > himself/mission. He came to admire and trust Tanjiro and his friends.
Genya Shinazugawa's abilities
Demonic Transformation (Flesh Consumption): Genya's most remarkable ability. Due to a special digestive system and jaws, he can eat the tissues of living demons. By doing so, he temporarily gains the regenerative attributes, physical strength, and sometimes the Heavenly Blood Art of the demon he consumed. The stronger the demon, the stronger Genya becomes. Repetition of Actions (Repetitive Action): A technique taught by Gyomei Himejima (the Rock Pillar). To focus his mind and open all his senses, Genya repeats a series of phrases and prayers (the Amida Buddhist sutras). This replaces the focus effects of the Total Concentration Breathing. Main Arcs and Evolution Final Selection Arc: Genya survives the test alongside Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Kanao, and Inosuke. He demonstrates his aggressiveness by pulling the hair of one of the test guides out of sheer impatience to get her sword. Blacksmith Village Arc: Here he excels by fighting alongside Tanjiro and Nezuko against Upper Moon Four, Hantengu. Genya consumes parts of Hantengu's clones to gain firepower and regeneration. During this tense battle, he opens up emotionally, apologizes to Tanjiro for his previous rudeness, and decides to focus on becoming a Hashira so that his brother will recognize him.
Biography and Appearance of Genya Shinazugawa
Genya Shinazugawa: Unlike most swordsmen, he cannot use Breathing Techniques, but he compensates for this with a rare biological ability and the use of a firearm. He is the younger brother of the Wind Pillar, Sanemi Shinazugawa. Age: 16 years old. Appearance: Tall, with a constantly irritated expression and a large scar across his face (revenge for an attack he suffered in childhood); He sports a mohawk hairstyle with shaved sides. Personality: Initially, Genya presents himself as an arrogant, aggressive, and antisocial young man (as seen in the Final Selection). Over time, he reveals himself to be deeply insecure, loyal, and desperate to reconnect with his older brother. Biography: Tragic Past: Genya's childhood was marked by domestic abuse at the hands of his father, who was eventually murdered by a spiteful neighbor. Only his loving mother and siblings remained. The real tragedy occurred when Genya's mother was transformed into a demon. On a chaotic night, she attacked and killed five of her younger siblings. Sanemi, the eldest brother, managed to drag the creature outside and kill it to protect Genya. Not understanding what was happening and seeing only his mother's body disintegrating in the sunlight while Sanemi held a knife, Genya went into shock and accused Sanemi of being a murderer. This misunderstanding destroyed their relationship and created a trauma that shaped both their lives. Unique Abilities and Fighting Style: As Genya lacked talent for Breathing Techniques, he developed a completely different combat method: Flesh and Steel Pistol: He uses a short-barreled shotgun adapted for hunters. The bullets are made of scarlet iron ore and crimson iron sand (the same material as Nichirin swords), capable of wounding demons from a distance.
Inosuke Hashibira's abilities
Beast Breathing (Kedamono no Kokyu): Created by Inosuke himself based on the movements of wild animals he observed in the forest. It is a direct derivation of Wind Breathing. It focuses on brutal strikes, attacks from irregular angles, and using the environment to his advantage. Twin, Chipped Nichirin Katanas: He uses two blue-gray swords. The most striking detail is that Inosuke uses stones to deliberately chip and break the cutting edge of his own blades, making them resemble saws. This causes his attacks not to make clean cuts, but to tear and shred the flesh of demons in a much more painful way. Human Anatomical Flexibility: Inosuke's control over his joints defies biology. He can voluntarily dislocate any bone or joint in his body instantly and put them back in place without suffering long-term damage. He can stretch his arms beyond the normal limit or turn his torso 180 degrees. Internal Organ Displacement: During the battle in the Entertainment District against Gyutaro (Upper Moon 6), Inosuke survived a direct stab to the chest that should have pierced his heart. He managed to do this by using his internal flexibility to physically shift the position of his heart to the side seconds before the attack impacted.
Biography ² of Inosuke Hashibira
The baby survived the fall and floated to shore. The Boar Family: He was found and adopted by a female boar who had lost her own offspring. He grew up in the wild acting like an animal and competing for food with other beasts, which shaped his flexibility, strength, and survival instinct. He learned to speak basic human words by roughly interacting with a young local villager and his elderly grandfather, who read poems to him in the mountains. The Unusual Entry into the Demon Slayer Corps: Unlike the other protagonists, Inosuke did not undergo formal training under the tutelage of an official cultivator. He joined the Corps purely by accident and self-sufficiency: A demon slayer entered his mountainous territory on a mission. Inosuke challenged him to a physical fight, easily defeated the slayer, and took the defeated warrior's Nichirin Katana for himself. Hearing about the existence of strong demons through the man, he decided to descend from the mountain and participate in the Final Selection for pure fun, passing the test without difficulty. Unique Skills and Fighting Style: Inosuke is a self-taught warrior who has developed a chaotic and completely unpredictable fighting style by human standards.
Appearance and Biography of Inosuke Hashibira
Inosuke Hashibira: He completes the main trio of fighters alongside Tanjiro Kamado and Zenitsu Agatsuma. Raised by boars in the forest, Inosuke developed an impulsive, hyperactive, and extremely competitive personality, always seeking to prove that he is the strongest warrior in the world. Beneath his boar mask and rustic demeanor, he possesses an innate physical talent and an emotional sensitivity that blossoms throughout his journey. Physical Characteristics: Age: 15 years. Height and Weight: 1.64 meters and 63 kg. Appearance: Fair skin. Although he displays an absurdly muscular, defined body full of fight scars, Inosuke's face is the complete opposite: he has delicate feminine features, soft skin, large green eyes with long eyelashes, and black hair that fades to blue at the tips. The Boar Mask: He constantly wears the stuffed head of a female boar. This mask belonged to the creature that raised him in the mountains and serves as his greatest connection to his wild origins. Absolute Touch: Inosuke possesses a superhuman sense of touch. His skin is so sensitive that he can feel minute vibrations and air currents around him, allowing him to pinpoint the exact location of enemies within a radius of kilometers simply by touching the ground. Biography: The Wild Past and Upbringing in the Mountains: Inosuke grew up isolated from human society due to a tragic escape that marked his earliest childhood: Kotoha's Escape: He was born into an abusive home, and his biological mother, Kotoha Hashibira, fled to protect him from his violent father. She eventually found refuge in the cult led by Doma (who was actually Upper Moon 2). When Kotoha discovered that Doma was a human-devouring demon, she attempted to flee with the baby. The Sacrifice at the Waterfall: Pursued and cornered at the edge of a cliff, Kotoha threw baby Inosuke into a rushing river below to try and save his life, seconds before being murdered by Doma.
Biography ³ of Zenitsu Agatsuma
The Master's Tragedy and Maturation: Zenitsu's personality changes drastically because of a tragic letter he receives: During the story, Kaigaku encountered Upper Moon 1 (Kokushibo) and, to save his own skin, surrendered and consumed Muzan's blood, transforming into a demon and eventually assuming the position of the new Upper Moon 6. As punishment for training a traitor who allied himself with the Oni, Master Jigoro Kuwajima was forced to commit seppuku alone and without an assistant to alleviate his pain, resulting in a slow and agonizing death. Upon discovering this, Zenitsu's cowardice completely disappeared, being replaced by a cold seriousness and focus. He stopped crying and began to train obsessively in silence to fulfill his mission of revenge and justice. The Confrontation at the Infinite Castle and the Love for Nezuko: The climax of Zenitsu's story occurs at the Infinite Castle, where he meets Kaigaku face to face. In this duel, Zenitsu demonstrates his full evolution by fighting fully awake and conscious, defeating his former training partner with his seventh form, created by himself. Beyond his strength, Zenitsu's greatest motivation throughout the story is his platonic and exaggerated love for Nezuko Kamado. From the moment he saw her emerge from the wooden box, he vowed to protect her at all costs (even taking a beating from Inosuke to protect the box initially). He frequently talked to her while she was in her childlike form, bringing her flowers and telling her stories about the outside world.
Biography ² of Zenitsu Agatsuma
The training was hellish, and Zenitsu constantly tried to escape, climbing trees and crying. It was during one of these escape attempts that he was struck by lightning, miraculously surviving. The Rivalry with Kaigaku: Jigoro had another older disciple named Kaigaku. Unlike Zenitsu, Kaigaku was talented, arrogant, and focused, but harbored a deep contempt for Zenitsu, considering him weak and cowardly. Jigoro wanted them both to inherit the title of successors together, but Kaigaku hated the idea of sharing the legacy with someone he considered inferior. The Sleep Mechanism and Fighting Style: Zenitsu could only learn and execute the first of the six existing forms of Thunder Breathing. Because of this, he considered himself a complete failure. However, Jigoro consoled him, saying: "If you can only do one thing, master it to absolute perfection. Refine it to the very limit!" Collective Sleep Trance: When Zenitsu's fear and stress reach an unbearable level, his nervous system collapses and he faints or falls into a deep sleep. In this unconscious state, his traumas and insecurities are blocked. He begins to operate purely by instinct and muscle memory, displaying surgical, cold, and extremely fast swordsmanship. Thunder Breathing (Kaminari no Kokyu): A style focused on leg strength and burst speed. The user channels oxygen to the leg muscles to shoot like lightning. First Form: Thunder Flash (Ichi no kata: Hekireki Issen): The only standard technique he knows. The user lunges forward and slashes the enemy at a speed that simulates the sound of thunder cutting through the air. Zenitsu refined this technique by creating variations such as the Six Folds (Rokuren) and the Eight Folds (Hachiren), where he bounces off surfaces, changing direction multiple times at high speed.
Zenitsu Agatsuma's Appearance and Biography
Zenitsu Agatsuma: He travels alongside Tanjiro Kamado and Inosuke Hashibira. Initially, Zenitsu presents himself as a hysterical, pessimistic coward with low self-esteem, who cries and screams at the slightest sign of danger. However, behind his paralyzing fear hides a genius warrior with speed that defies the laws of physics and who can only fight when he enters a state of trance or deep sleep. Physical Characteristics: Age: 16 years. Height and Weight: 1.64 meters and 58 kg. Appearance: He has short, spiky, bright golden-blonde hair with orange tips. Originally, his hair was straight black. The color and shape changed drastically after he was struck by lightning during his training. His eyes are golden-brown; Absolute Hearing: Just as Tanjiro uses his sense of smell, Zenitsu possesses a superhuman sense of hearing. He can hear people's heartbeats, discern if someone is lying by the tone of their voice, hear the movements of Oni from a long distance, and even hear the thoughts or "soul sound" of the people around him; Attire: He wears the standard uniform of demon slayers under a cloak (haori) with a pattern of yellow and white triangles that mimic fish scales or lightning bolts. Biography: The Dark Past and the Master Savior: Zenitsu never knew his parents and grew up without any prospects for the future, frequently being deceived by women and accumulating enormous debts. The Debt and the Rescue: He was tricked by a girl who made him incur a massive debt and ran away with the money. Zenitsu was about to be sold or killed by debt collectors when he was saved by Jigoro Kuwajima, the former Thunder Hashira. The "Grandpa's" Training: Jigoro saw potential in the boy and decided to adopt him as a disciple at his mountain home, paying off all his debts. Zenitsu affectionately began calling him "Grandpa".
More of Nezuko Kamado's abilities
Awakened Form (Berserk Mode): During the battle in the Entertainment District against Daki (Upper Moon 6), Nezuko entered a state of extreme rage. She developed a horn on the right side of her forehead and vine-like markings on her skin. In this form, her speed and cellular regeneration abilities surpassed those of an Upper Moon, allowing her to instantly reconstruct severed limbs. Conquest of the Sun: At the end of the Blacksmith Village Arc, after the defeat of Hantengu (Upper Moon 4), Nezuko was directly exposed to the rising sun. Instead of disintegrating into ashes like all other Oni in history, her body underwent spontaneous cellular evolution, and she became immune to sunlight. She also partially regained her speech, although her mind remained childlike.
Biography and Skills of Nezuko Kamado
This act of humanity convinced Giyu to spare her life. Unique Survival Mechanisms: Because Nezuko adamantly refused to drink blood or eat human flesh, her body had to adapt in ways no other demon ever could: Regenerative Sleep: Instead of restoring her energy through cannibalism, Nezuko enters states of deep, prolonged sleep. After the tragedy, she spent two whole years sleeping continuously while Tanjiro underwent Urokodaki's training. This sleep rewired her cells and stabilized her mutation. Hypnotic Conditioning: During her two years of sleep, Sakonji Urokodaki used hypnotic suggestion techniques on her mind. He implanted the command that all humans are her family and that she must protect them at all costs, seeing demons as natural enemies. Oni Abilities and Powers: Nezuko doesn't use swords or breathing techniques, but possesses an extremely destructive Demon Blood Art (Ketsujijutsu) and absolute body control. Size Manipulation: She can alter her bone and muscle structure at will. She shrinks to the size of a small child to fit inside the wooden box Tanjiro carries on his back, protecting herself from sunlight, or grows to an imposing adult form to fight. Demon Blood Art: Explosive Flames (Bakuketsu): Nezuko can ignite her own blood, transforming it into shocking pink flames. This fire has unique purifying properties: it burns and carbonizes Oni and nullifies demonic poisons (like that of Upper Moon 6), but is completely harmless to humans. She can also apply these flames to Tanjiro's Nichirin Katana, temporarily transforming it into a Crimson Red Blade.
Nezuko Kamado's appearance
Nezuko Kamado: Transformed into a demon by Muzan Kibutsuji after the massacre of her family, she defied the laws of Oni biology by refusing to consume human flesh. Her unique existence and the desire to protect her became the driving force behind Tanjiro Kamado's story and the catalyst that shifted the balance of power in the Demon Slayer Corps. Physical Characteristics: Age: 14 years old physically (although her mind remained in a childlike state after the transformation). Human Appearance: She had black hair tied in a bun and expressive black eyes. She wore a pink kimono with hemp leaf patterns (Asanha) and a brown checkered haori. Oni Appearance: Her eyes became bright pink, her nails turned into sharp claws, and she developed prominent fangs. Her pupils become slit-shaped when she is in combat. The tips of her hair gained a reddish-orange coloration; The Bamboo Gag: She wears a bamboo gag tied with a red ribbon around her mouth. It was originally placed there by Giyu Tomioka to prevent her from instinctively biting someone and has become her most iconic visual accessory. Biography: The Night of the Massacre and the Unprecedented Mutation: Nezuko was the second oldest daughter of the Kamado family and helped her mother care for her younger siblings with extreme sweetness and sacrifice. On the night Tanjiro was in the village, Muzan Kibutsuji invaded the family home seeking to create a sun-resistant demon. The Survival: Muzan injected a massive amount of his blood into the bodies of the Kamado family. All the younger siblings and the mother died due to cellular rejection, but Nezuko managed to survive and began her mutation. The Awakening of Will: Upon regaining consciousness, her Oni instinct caused her to attack Tanjiro. However, when Giyu Tomioka intervened to decapitate her, Nezuko surprised the Hashira: instead of using her wounded brother as a flesh shield, she placed herself in front of Tanjiro to defend him.
More Skills of Tanjiro Kamado
Transparent World and State of Altruism: In the Infinite Castle, remembering his father's lessons about "erasing one's own presence," Tanjiro achieved the State of Altruism. He managed to completely hide his fighting spirit, becoming invisible to Akaza's (Upper Moon 3) senses and decapitating the demon. The Stone Head: A comical but useful element: Tanjiro possesses an abnormally hard forehead. He frequently uses physical headbutts to stun human and demon opponents mid-fight.
Biography ² of Tanjiro Kamado
Seeing Tanjiro's despair and the unprecedented act of Nezuko protecting her brother instead of devouring him, Giyu decided to spare them and sent Tanjiro to train with Sakonji Urokodaki. Training and Evolution of Breathing Styles: Tanjiro underwent two years of grueling training on Mount Sagiri under Urokodaki's tutelage, overcoming deadly tests and learning Water Breathing. The pinnacle of his training was cutting a giant rock in half, a feat he only accomplished with the spiritual help of Sabito and Makomo. He survived the Final Selection by defeating the Demon Hand and officially joined the Demon King Academy. However, Tanjiro's true potential awakens when he realizes his body isn't fully compatible with the Water Style: The Dance of the Fire God (Hinokami Kagura): During the desperate battle against Rui (Lower Moon 5) on Mount Natagumo, Tanjiro recalled the ritualistic movements his father performed in winter. He transformed this dance into a devastating swordsmanship style. Later, he discovers that Hinokami Kagura is actually the legendary Sun Breathing (Hi no Kokyu), the origin of all other breathing styles. Skills and Combat Power: Throughout his battles at the Tsuzumi Mansion, on the Mugen Train, in the Entertainment District, and in the Blacksmith Village, Tanjiro evolved by leaps and bounds, reaching the power level of a Hashira. Style Fusion: Demonstrating great tactical genius, Tanjiro learned to blend the flexibility of Water Breathing with the explosive cutting power of Sun Breathing to compensate for the extreme physical strain that fire caused on his muscles. The Hunter Mark: He was the first of his generation to actively awaken the Hunter Mark. His presence helped trigger the awakening of the marks in other Hashira through the resonance effect.
Appearance and Biography ¹ of Tanjiro Kamado
Tanjiro Kamado: Driven by unconditional love for his demon-turned-sister Nezuko, and guided by a genuine kindness that extends compassion even to his enemies, Tanjiro became the key to the destruction of Muzan Kibutsuji. Physical Characteristics: Age: 15 years old. Appearance: He has short, spiky, dark wine-colored hair and deep red eyes. He has a birthmark on the left side of his forehead that later transforms into a burn scar and eventually into his own Hunter Mark; The Hanafuda Earrings: He wears a pair of earrings inherited from his father. These earrings are a crucial historical symbol, as they originally belonged to Yoriichi Tsugikuni, the creator of the first breathing technique. Absolute Sense of Smell: Tanjiro possesses a superhuman sense of smell. He can track demons from miles away, discern people's emotions by smell, and in combat, detect the "Opening Line" (the scent trail that shows exactly where and when to strike to overcome the enemy's defense). Biography: The Tragedy and the Beginning of the Journey: Tanjiro was the eldest son of a humble family of charcoal burners who lived peacefully in the mountains. After the premature death of his father, Tanjuro Kamado, he assumed the responsibility of supporting his mother and his five younger siblings. The Massacre: One winter day, Tanjiro went down to the village to sell charcoal and had to spend the night there due to the danger of demons. Upon returning the next morning, he found a scene of horror: almost his entire family had been brutally slaughtered by Muzan Kibutsuji. The Only Survivor: Only his sister, Nezuko Kamado, was still alive, but she had been contaminated by Muzan's blood and transformed into an Oni. The Encounter with Giyu: While trying to save her, Tanjiro was intercepted by Giyu Tomioka (the Water Hashira).
Biography ³ of Giyu Tomioka
The Legacy with the Kamado Brothers: Giyu's hidden compassion changed the fate of the world. Upon meeting Tanjiro and Nezuko in the first chapter, he broke the Corporation's absolute rule by not executing the Oni. He staked his own life on their future: Giyu sent an official letter to Master Kagaya Ubuyashiki stating that if Nezuko ever devoured a human, he (Giyu), Urokodaki, and Tanjiro would commit seppuku as punishment.
Giyu Tomioka's Biography ² and Skills
Sabito defeated almost all the demons in the area single-handedly, but his sword broke when facing the Demon Hand, resulting in his death. Giyu awoke after seven days, discovering that he had passed the test without killing a single demon, while his hero had died. The Identity Crisis as a Hashira: Giyu mastered the Water Breathing technique and climbed the ranks of the Corps to become the Water Hashira. However, in his mind, he saw himself as a fraud. He firmly believed that the true pillar should have been Sabito. This guilt caused him to isolate himself from the other Hashira. When the pillars gathered, Giyu would often walk away and say, "I am different from you." The other Hashira (especially Sanemi and Obanai) interpreted this as arrogance, thinking that Giyu considered himself superior, when in reality he felt inferior and unworthy of being there. It took a long dialogue with Tanjiro Kamado in the Hashira Training arc for him to remember the promise he made to Sabito and accept his position. Skills and Fighting Style: Giyu is a genius swordsman, considered by hunters and demons alike to be one of the calmest, most fluid, and perfect users of Water Breathing of all generations. Water Breathing (Mizu no Kokyu): A style focused on flexibility, adaptability, and continuous flow. Giyu perfectly masters the 10 standard forms originally created. The Eleventh Exclusive Form (Nagi - Calm): Created by Giyu himself. Upon activating this technique, he ceases all body movements and enters a state of absolute tranquility. Any enemy attack that enters the range of his aura is instantly cut and nullified by imperceptible movements of his sword. The Hunter's Mark: During the final confrontation in the Infinite Castle, Giyu awakens the Hunter's Mark on his left cheek, with a pattern resembling waves of water. The mark elevates his speed, reflexes, and cutting power to superhuman levels.
Appearance and Biography ¹ of Giyu Tomioka
Giyu Tomioka: He is the Water Hashira. He was responsible for sparing Nezuko's life and guiding Tanjiro Kamado to his training. Despite his cold, distant, and taciturn appearance, Giyu carries a deep identity crisis and a devastating inferiority complex, stemming from the sacrifices of those who loved him. Physical Characteristics: Age: 21 years. Height and Weight: 1.76 meters and 69 kg. Appearance: Fair skin; He has long, spiky black hair tied in a low ponytail. His eyes are dark blue, deep and dull, reflecting his melancholy; The Divided Haori: He wears a unique robe (haori), divided in half with two different patterns. The right side is plain red (in memory of his sister Tsutako) and the left side has a geometric pattern of green, orange, and yellow (in memory of his best friend, Sabito). Biography: The Burden of Survival and the Guilt Complex: Giyu's life was shaped by traumatic losses where other people died so that he could live, which destroyed his self-esteem. His Sister's Sacrifice: On the eve of his older sister Tsutako Tomioka's wedding, their house was attacked by an Oni. Tsutako hid young Giyu and gave her life to protect him. Giyu tried to tell people that his sister had been killed by a monster, but he was considered insane and almost institutionalized. He escaped and nearly died in the mountains, until he was rescued by Sakonji Urokodaki, the former Water Hashira. Friendship with Sabito: During Urokodaki's training, Giyu met Sabito, an orphan of the same age. They became best friends and entered the Final Selection together to become professional hunters. The Tragedy in the Final Selection: Right at the beginning of the test, Giyu was injured by a demon and lost consciousness. Sabito saved him, left him in the care of another candidate, and went off to help all the other hunters on the mountain.
Shinobu Kocho's Skills
Unique Skills and Fighting Style: Being the only one among all the Hashira who doesn't possess the physical strength to decapitate a demon, Shinobu revolutionized the Corps' combat by fusing swordsmanship with advanced science and pharmacology. Insect Breathing (Mushi no Kokyu): A style she created herself, derived from Flower Breathing (which in turn derives from Water). It focuses on thrusts, quick punctures, and acrobatic movements that mimic the stinging of bees or wasps. Modified Nichirin Blade: Her sword resembles a stinger. The blade is thin and hollow, maintaining the cutting edge only at the tip. The blacksmith Tecchin Tecchikawahara designed the sheath with a special mechanism that acts as a chemical mixer. Every time Shinobu sheathes the sword, the weapon is recharged with a personalized dose of poison. Master of Wisteria Poison: Shinobu is a genius chemist. She developed lethal poisons for Oni based on the wisteria flower. Since demons can quickly develop immunity, she alters the medical formula and dosage of her toxins mid-battle simply by changing the angle at which she sheathes her sword. Extreme Medical Knowledge: She commands the Butterfly Mansion, the main medical center of the Demon Slayer Corps, where she oversees the rehabilitation of injured Slayers (as she did with Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke) and creates antidotes for poisons created by demons.
Shinobu Kocho's Appearance and Biography
Shinobu Kocho: She is the Insect Hashira. She stands out as one of the brightest and most strategic minds in the Corps. Although she displays a calm, gentle demeanor and a constant smile, this facade hides an overwhelming fury and an unrelenting desire for revenge against the demons who destroyed her family. Physical Characteristics: Age: 18 years. Height and Weight: 1.51 meters and 37 kg (the lightest and physically weakest Hashira). Appearance: Fair skin, deep purple eyes without pupils, resembling those of an insect. Her hair is short and black, fading to purple at the tips, tied with a butterfly ornament; The Butterfly Haori: She wears a cloak (haori) with a butterfly wing pattern that belonged to her deceased older sister, Kanae Kocho. The fabric flows gracefully as she moves, mimicking the flight of an insect. Biography: Kanae's Trauma and Legacy: Shinobu grew up in a loving and wealthy family, the daughter of parents who worked with medicinal compounds. This peaceful childhood was brutally interrupted when a demon invaded her home and murdered her parents in front of her and her older sister, Kanae Kocho. The two were saved at the last second by Gyomei Himejima. The Promise: After the trauma, Shinobu and Kanae vowed to become demon slayers to ensure that no one else would go through the pain they felt. Years later, they rescued little Kanao Tsuyuri from a slave market, adopting her as their younger sister at the Butterfly Mansion. The Personality Change: Originally, Shinobu was a grumpy, blunt, and short-tempered young woman. However, everything changed when Kanae—who at the time was the Flower Hashira—was murdered by Upper Moon 2 (Doma). On her deathbed, Kanae lamented the cruelty of the Oni and expressed her wish that humans and demons could live in peace. To honor her sister's memory, Shinobu suppressed her own anger and adopted Kanae's gentle, smiling demeanor and soft voice.
Kyojuro Rengoku Biography and Abilities
Entry into the Corps and Mentor of Mitsuri: Kyojuro quickly rose through the ranks of the Corps. In his first major high-level official mission, he defeated Lower Moon Number 2 (Hairo), formally earning the title of Flame Hashira and proving the value of his efforts to his absent father. Throughout his career, he also acted as a mentor to Mitsuri Kanroji. He was the one who trained the future Love Hashira, encouraging her to use her unique brute strength instead of trying to fit into the social standards of an ordinary girl. Abilities and Fighting Style: Kyojuro is the ultimate example of pure technique and tactical refinement. His movements are clean, precise, and devastating. Flame Breathing (Hono no Kokyu): One of the fundamental styles derived directly from Sun Breathing. It focuses on singular, high-impact, caloric strikes and fire-immersed cuts. The Hidden Ninth Form: Rengoku (Ku no kata: Rengoku): The ultimate technique developed by his family. The user dashes forward, creating an overwhelming dragon-like aura of flames, capable of opening craters in the ground and incinerating everything around it. Flaming Nichirin Katana: His sword has a crimson-red blade with a pattern that mimics waves of fire. The handguard (tsuba) has the classic shape of a golden and red flame. Physical Strength and Iron Will: Even without awakening the Hunter's Mark or accessing the Transparent World, Kyojuro's raw physical power was so immense that he managed to immobilize Upper Moon 3's arms with just the strength of his muscles, shocking the demon himself.
Kyojuro Rengoku's Appearance
Kyojuro Rengoku: He is the Flame Hashira in Demon Slayer. Possessing an unwavering spirit, he is the moral pillar of the Demon Slayer Corps, known for his radiant optimism, contagious enthusiasm, and absolute sense of duty. His life philosophy—using strength to protect the weak—became Tanjiro Kamado's greatest legacy. Physical Characteristics: Age: 20 years. Height and Weight: 1.77 meters and 72 kg. Appearance: He has bright blond hair with red streaks that resemble flames, and striking golden eyes; his eyebrows are black and forked. He rarely blinks or changes his enthusiastic expression. Notable Habit: He always speaks in a loud, firm tone and exudes an overwhelming positive energy. He is famous for repeatedly shouting "Umai!" (Delicious!) while eating. Biography: The Weight of a Family Legacy: Unlike many demon slayers who came from poverty, Kyojuro was born into the prestigious Rengoku clan, a lineage that has produced Flame Hashira for generations since the Sengoku era. The Exemplary Mother: His mother, Ruka Rengoku, was a wise and steadfast woman. Before dying of a chronic illness, she instilled a crucial lesson in young Kyojuro's mind: "Those born with greater strength or privilege have a sacred duty to use that power to save the weak." This phrase shaped his entire existence. The Bitter Father: His father, Shinjuro Rengoku, was the previous Hashira. Destroyed by grief after his wife's death and frustrated by the limitations of Flame Breathing compared to Sun Breathing, Shinjuro abandoned his post, became an alcoholic, and came to despise the Demon Slayer Corps, mistreating his own children. Self-Learning: Despite his father's refusal to train him and insistence that he lacked talent, Kyojuro remained undeterred. He took on the responsibility of caring for his younger brother, Senjuro Rengoku, and studied the ancient manuals of Flame Breathing on his own, mastering the style purely through his willpower.
Mitsuri Kanroji's abilities
Skills and Fighting Style: Mitsuri's style blends her unbelievable brute strength with speed and flexibility that defy physics. Breath of Love (Koi no Kokyu): A style derived from the Breath of Flames. Her attacks are quick, acrobatic, long-range whips, combining the strength of her dense muscles with the agility of her reflexes. The Flexible Nichirin Blade: Her sword is a masterpiece of metallurgy, resembling a ribbon or whip of extremely thin and flexible metal. Only Mitsuri can wield it without cutting her own body. The speed of her strikes with this sword surpasses even the attack speed of the Sound Hashira, Tengen Uzui. The Hunter's Mark: During the battle in the Blacksmith Village against Upper Moon 4 (Hantengu), upon seeing Tanjiro and the others in mortal danger, Mitsuri awakens the Hunter's Mark in the form of two hearts with wings above her collarbone. This increases her physical resistance to absurd levels, allowing her to withstand sonic shockwaves at point-blank range and continue fighting.
Mitsuri Kanroji Biography
The Genetic Mutation: Mitsuri was born with exceptional muscle density, eight times denser than a normal human's. From infancy, she displayed superhuman strength (being able to lift immense stones at 14 months old). To maintain this musculature, her body requires an amount of food equivalent to that of three sumo wrestlers. The Failed Engagement: At 17, she found a suitor. However, the man cruelly rejected her on their engagement day, horrified by her hair color, frightened by her strength, and disgusted by her excessive eating. The False Identity: Traumatized and wanting to be accepted, Mitsuri began dyeing her hair black, feigning extreme physical weakness, and starving herself to appear like an ordinary girl. She found a new suitor, but entered an existential crisis: she realized that spending her entire life pretending to be someone she wasn't would make her unhappy forever. The Search for a Home and Entry into the Hunter Corps: Mitsuri decided she needed to find a place where people would accept her exactly as she was—with her immense strength, her colorful hair, and her voracious appetite. She joined the Hunter Corps with an unusual goal: to find a husband stronger than herself to protect her. There, she was warmly welcomed by Kagaya Ubuyashiki, who praised her strength and said she should be proud of her uniqueness. She initially trained under Kyojuro Rengoku (the Flame Hashira), but her flexibility and fighting style were so unique that she eventually developed her own variation.
Mitsuri Kanroji's Appearance
Mitsuri Kanroji: She is the Love Hashira in Demon Slayer. Known for her cheerful, caring, emotional personality and constantly falling in love with the world around her, she completely breaks the stereotype of the coldness of demon slayers. Behind her shy and cute demeanor hides a warrior with a genetically modified physical constitution and one of the most impressive brute forces in the Corps. Physical Characteristics: Age: 19 years. Height and Weight: 1.67 meters and 56 kg. Appearance: She has long, bright pink hair that fades to lime green at the tips. The official explanation for this exotic color is the fact that she ate 170 sakura mochi a day for eight consecutive months. She has two charming moles below each eye; The special uniform: She wears a modified version of the uniform, with an open chest and a short skirt, designed by a perverted tailor from the Corps (who tricked her into thinking it was the standard one). She also wears long green striped socks, a gift from Obanai Iguro. Biography: The Cocoon of a Misunderstood Young Woman: Unlike most Hashira, Mitsuri didn't join the Corps because of a family tragedy or murder by Oni. The drama of her life was social rejection.
Muichiro Tokito's Skills
Skills and Fighting Style: Despite his young age and frail body, Muichiro possesses surprising muscular strength and reflexes that defy logic. Mist Breathing (Kasumi no Kokyu): A style derived from Wind Breathing. It focuses on rapid movements that confuse the enemy's visual perception, obscuring the hunter's true position like a dense fog. The Exclusive Seventh Form (Oboro - Shifting Mist): Created by Muichiro himself. He drastically alters the rhythm of his movements; when appearing before the enemy, he seems incredibly slow, but when hiding, he moves at an imperceptible speed, completely disorienting the opponent. The Hunter's Mark: During the battle in the Blacksmith Village against Upper Moon 5 (Gyokko), upon recovering his memories and understanding that "Muichiro's power comes from the 'Mu' of Infinity," he awakens the Hunter's Mark on his cheeks. The mark drastically increases his speed and stamina, allowing him to single-handedly unleash an Upper Moon. The Legendary Bloodline: Later in the story, it is revealed that the special bloodline mentioned by Amane Ubuyashiki directly connects the Tokito twins to Michikatsu Tsugikuni, the Sengoku period hunter who became corrupted and turned into Upper Moon 1 (Kokushibo). This makes Muichiro a distant descendant of the twin brother of the creator of Sun Breathing (Yoriichi).
Biography of Muichiro Tokito
The Oni Attack: At age 11, a demon invaded the cabin and instantly ripped off Yuichiro's left arm. Seeing his brother on the verge of death, Muichiro was consumed by a blind, godlike rage. He beat the demon with lumberjack tools, logs, and stones until dawn, leaving the monster to rot in the sun. The Trauma and Amnesia: Muichiro crawled back to the cabin and found Yuichiro dying. In his final moments, Yuichiro prayed to the gods to save his younger brother, revealing that his coldness was merely fear of losing him. The psychological and physical shock was so violent that Muichiro survived, but completely lost all memories of his life and identity. Lightning Rise in the Corporation: Rescued by Amane, Muichiro channeled all his repressed and forgotten anger into obsessive training. With no memories of the past, he acted like an empty shell, operating purely on logic and coldness (an unconscious copy of his deceased brother's behavior). His genius with the sword allowed him to become the Mist Hashira in just 60 days.
Muichiro Tokito's Appearance
Muichiro Tokito: He is the Mist Hashira in Demon Slayer. Considered an unprecedented prodigy in the history of the Corps, he achieved the rank of Pillar with only two months of training. Initially, he presents himself as a scatterbrained, indifferent, and purely logical young man, but this personality hides a profound amnesia caused by a brutal childhood trauma. Physical Characteristics: Age: 14 years old (the youngest Hashira of the current generation). Height and Weight: 1.60 meters and 56 kg. Appearance: He has long, straight black hair that fades to a mint-green tone at the tips. His eyes are large, empty, and the same color as the tips of his hair, reflecting his constant state of distraction; Clothing: He wears a modified and visibly baggy version of the Demon Slayer uniform. The long sleeves and wide pants serve to camouflage the movements of his arms and legs, making the trajectory of his attacks unpredictable for the Oni. Biography: The Past and the Loss of Identity: Muichiro grew up in a mountain cabin with his parents and his older twin brother, Yuichiro Tokito. His father was a lumberjack, and his mother suffered from a chronic illness. The First Tragedy: When the twins were 10 years old, their mother passed away due to severe pneumonia. On the same day, their father went out in the middle of a storm to gather medicinal herbs, fell off a cliff, and died. The two boys were left completely alone. The Difference Between the Twins: While Muichiro inherited his father's kind, optimistic, and altruistic personality, Yuichiro became cold, cynical, and extremely realistic in order to protect them. When Amane Ubuyashiki (wife of the Corporation's leader) visited them to reveal that they were descendants of a legendary lineage of hunters, Yuichiro aggressively expelled her, wanting to distance himself from danger.
Obanai Iguro's Skills
Skills and Fighting Style: Despite not possessing the brute physical strength of Gyomei or Sanemi, Obanai compensates with unparalleled agility, unpredictable strikes, and bodily flexibility. Snake Breathing (Hebi no Kokyu): A style derived from Water Breathing. His attacks simulate the sinuous, slippery, and rapid movements of a snake, allowing him to curve the trajectory of his strikes at impossible angles. Wavy Nichirin Blade: His sword has the shape of a wavy snake and takes on a dark purple hue. The blade's shape allows it to pass through the smallest gaps and bypass enemy defenses. Perfect Synchronization with Kaburamaru: Due to Obanai's partial blindness, Kaburamaru acts as his eyes on the battlefield. The snake can read the heartbeats, temperature, and attacks of enemies, transmitting the exact information for Obanai to attack with millimeter precision, even in conditions of zero visibility. Obanai's Love for Mitsuri Kanroji: Mitsuri is Obanai's psychological salvation. The purity, joy, and voracious appetite of the Love Hashira bring light to his dark life. He frequently showers her with gifts (like the green socks she wears) and is extremely jealous and protective of her. However, because he considers himself "tainted" due to his past, he never formally confesses his feelings.
Biography of Obanai Iguro
He spent the first 12 years of his life locked in a wooden cell. The Mutilation: At age 12, the demon demanded to see the boy. Finding Obanai's mouth too small for his liking, the monster ordered the family to cut the corners of the boy's mouth to make him look like a snake. Obanai's blood was collected and drunk by the demon. The Escape and Tragedy: Using a stolen hairpin, Obanai managed to dig through the cell walls and escape. On the way, he met and befriended Kaburamaru. The Serpent Demon pursued him, but the boy was saved at the last second by the then Flame Hashira (Shinjuro Rengoku, Kyojuro's father). As punishment for the escape, the demon massacred all 50 women of Obanai's clan. The only surviving cousin rejected the boy, blaming him for the death of the entire family. Entry into the Corps and Self-Loss: Plagued by guilt for carrying the "unclean blood" of a clan of assassins associated with demons, Obanai developed an extreme hatred for Oni and a deep self-loathing. He joined the Demon Slayer Corps with a self-destructive ideal: he believed that the only way to purify his soul and be worthy of living in peace would be to die in combat after defeating Muzan Kibutsuji.
Appearance of Obanai Iguro
Obanai Iguro: He is the Snake Hashira in Demon Slayer. Known for his rigid, distrustful demeanor and strict adherence to the Corps' rules, he is a warrior of surgical precision. Behind his coldness and the bandages covering his face lies a past of deep trauma, self-loathing, and a silent, devoted love for the Love Hashira, Mitsuri Kanroji. Physical Characteristics: Age: 21 years. Height and Weight: 1.62 meters and 53 kg (one of the shortest and physically weakest among the men in the group). Appearance: He has heterochromia—his left eye is green and his right eye is yellow. His right eye has been partially blind since childhood. He wears bandages covering his mouth to hide deep scars that cut across his lips to his ears. Kaburamaru: A white snake with red eyes that lives coiled around his neck. It is not an ordinary pet; it is an extension of Obanai's senses. Biography: The Dark Past and the Serpent Cult: Obanai was born into a clan of thieves and assassins who lived in a luxurious mansion. The clan worshipped a female Serpent Demon in exchange for the goods and riches the monster stole from its victims. The Boy in the Cage: Obanai was the first boy born into the lineage in 370 years. Because of his rarity and exotic eyes, the demon decided to temporarily spare him so that he would grow larger and become "more delicious."
Sanemi Shinazugawa's abilities
Skills and Fighting Style: Sanemi compensates for his lack of subtlety with overwhelming speed and a brutal, acrobatic swordsmanship style. Wind Breathing (Kaze no Kokyu): A style focused on continuous slashing attacks, mimicking destructive storms and typhoons. He masters all 9 forms of this style. Intoxicating Marechi Blood: Sanemi frequently cuts his own arms on purpose during fights. The aroma of his blood confuses demons, creating fatal gaps in enemy defenses. Superhuman Physical Resistance: He possesses such perfect muscle control that he can close open wounds in the middle of battle simply by contracting his muscles, preventing hemorrhaging while continuing to attack. Improvised Weapon Control: In addition to his green Nichirin katana with windmill patterns, Sanemi is highly versatile, being able to use his feet to wield dropped swords or utilize short-range firearms in the heat of combat.
Sanemi Shinazugawa Biography
The tragedy that changed his life happened on a dark night: The Attack: Sanemi's mother didn't return home, and suddenly, a monstrous creature invaded the house, instantly massacring five of his younger siblings. The Sacrifice: To save Genya, Sanemi threw the monster out the window. Using an ordinary knife and fighting purely on instinct in the dark, he fought a bloody battle until he cut the creature's throat. The Traumatizing Revelation: When the sun rose, Sanemi discovered with horror that the demon he had just killed was, in fact, his own mother, who had been transformed into an Oni. Genya's Rejection: Genya, arriving at the scene and seeing Sanemi covered in blood beside his mother's body, became desperate and screamed, calling Sanemi a "murderer." This misunderstanding destroyed their relationship and left eternal psychological scars on Sanemi. The Solo Journey and Entry into the Demon Slayer Corps: Driven by trauma, Sanemi abandoned Genya (to keep him safe and out of danger) and began hunting demons in a suicidal manner. Without knowledge of Nichirin Swords or breathing styles, he captured the Oni alive and tied them up to burn to death in the sunlight. During this phase, he discovered he possessed an extremely rare blood type (Marechi), which acts as a "strong drink" for demons, causing them to lose concentration, coordination, and stagger simply by smelling it. Later, he met a demon slayer named Masachika Kumeno, who formally introduced him to the Corps and taught him the Breath of Wind. Together, they defeated the Lower Moon Number 1 of the time, but Kumeno died in the battle. Sanemi inherited the rank of Hashira, but developed a strong bitterness, initially taking out his frustration even on the leader Kagaya Ubuyashiki, before understanding the weight that the master also carried.
Appearance of Sanemi Shinazugawa
Sanemi Shinazugawa: He is the Wind Hashira. Known for his extremely aggressive, explosive, and ruthless personality, he harbors a deep hatred for all Oni. Despite his violent and rude behavior, behind his hostile facade hides a deeply protective brother and one of the most loyal warriors to the Demon Slayer Corps. Physical Characteristics: Age: 21 years. Height and Weight: 1.79 meters and 74 kg. Appearance: He has spiky white hair and wide eyes that give him a constant expression of fury. His body and face are covered in deep scars, accumulated over years of violent combat. Attire: He wears the standard uniform of demon slayers open at the chest (to display his battle scars) and a white robe (haori) with the kanji for "Kill" (Satsu) engraved on the back. Biography: The Dark and Tragic Past: Sanemi grew up in a very poor family, being the eldest of seven siblings. Their father was an abusive and violent man who was eventually stabbed to death by a local citizen. After their father's death, Sanemi and his younger brother, Genya Shinazugawa, vowed to protect their mother and younger siblings at all costs.
Gyomei Himejima's Skills
Skills and Fighting Style: Gyomei doesn't fight like other swordsmen; he overcame his lack of sight by refining his other senses to godlike levels. Rock Breathing (Iwa no Kokyu): A technique focused on firm ground, raw power, and impenetrable defense. Unique Nichirin Weapon: A heavy, spiked iron ball connected by a long chain to a battle axe. The weapon is made of a pure metal that absorbs sunlight much more intensely than normal katanas. Echolocation and Absolute Hearing: He can map the battlefield three-dimensionally just by listening to the swaying of his chains and the heartbeats of his enemies. Transparent World: During the climax of the story, Gyomei gains access to this mental ability, allowing him to see the muscles, blood flow, and weak points of his opponents directly in their minds, completely overcoming his physical blindness.
Gyomei Himejima Biography
The Massacre: The demon instantly devoured four children. Gyomei tried to protect the remaining ones, but due to his blindness and apparent weakness, most distrusted him and tried to flee, only to be hunted down and killed in the courtyard. The Awakening of Strength: Only the youngest, a little girl named Sayo, remained behind him. Driven by desperation, Gyomei awakened an unbelievable brute strength. He immobilized the demon and spent the entire night pounding the monster's head until dawn, when the sun disintegrated it. The Injustice: Traumatized, Sayo told the local authorities: "That man is a monster. He killed everyone." She was referring to the demon (which had already vanished in the sun), but the police understood that Gyomei was the culprit. He was arrested and sentenced to execution for the murder of the children he loved so much. Entry into the Demon Slayer Corps: Shortly before his execution, Gyomei was saved by Kagaya Ubuyashiki, the leader of the Demon Slayers, who intervened and cleared his name. Grateful, Gyomei trained intensely and achieved the rank of Hashira in just two months of training, becoming Kagaya's most loyal pillar and confidant. Because of past trauma, he developed a deep distrust of people, especially children and young people, taking a long time to trust Tanjiro Kamado.
Appearance of Gyomei Himejima
Gyomei Himejima: He is the Rock Hashira and is widely recognized as the strongest member of the entire Demon Slayer Corps. Despite his intimidating appearance and monumental size, he possesses an extremely sensitive and compassionate personality, easily moved to tears by the world's suffering. Physical Characteristics: Age: 27 years old (the oldest active Hashira). Height and Weight: 2.20 meters and 130 kg, composed entirely of dense muscles. Appearance: Blind since childhood due to a high fever, he has completely white eyes; he has a large horizontal scar on his forehead and wears an olive-green robe (haori) with Buddhist prayers written on it. Notable Habit: He is constantly holding prayer beads (ojuzu) and reciting mantras. The Dark and Tragic Past: Before becoming a demon slayer, Gyomei was a thin and frail young man who lived in an isolated temple, lovingly caring for nine orphaned children as if they were his family. To protect them from demons, he burned wisteria incense every night around the temple. Tragedy struck when one of the children (Kaigaku) disobeyed the rules and stayed outside after nightfall. Captured by an Oni, the boy betrayed the temple to save his own skin: he extinguished the protective incense and guided the monster into the house.
Biography ³ of Sakonji Urokodaki
The Hellish Training: To prevent Tanjiro from dying in the Final Selection like the others, Urokodaki imposed an absurdly rigorous training regimen. The young man had to descend Mount Sagiri, dodging deadly traps in the thin air, learn swordsmanship, and master the ten forms of Water Breathing. The Rock Challenge: As the ultimate test (and a secret attempt to prevent the boy from going to the life-or-death test), Urokodaki said he would only release him if he cut a huge rock in half. Tanjiro accomplished this feat after two years and went to the Final Selection, where he finally broke the curse by decapitating the Demon Hand, avenging his master's past. Nezuko's Protector and the Blood Oath: While Tanjiro trained and later carried out his missions, Nezuko spent two whole years sleeping in Urokodaki's cabin. Hypnotic Suggestion: During Nezuko's prolonged sleep, Urokodaki used psychological suggestion techniques on her mind. He established the order that all humans are his family and that she must protect them and fight any demon that threatens them. The Promise of Life: When Nezuko's existence was discovered by the Hashira and Master Kagaya Ubuyashiki, a letter from Urokodaki was read at the trial. In it, he attested to Nezuko's humanity and made a blood oath: if Nezuko ever attacked a single human being, he, Giyu Tomioka, and Tanjiro would commit seppuku.
Biography ² of Sakonji Urokodaki
Retirement and the Tragedy of the Pupils: After retiring from the battlefields, he became a Cultivator (trainer), establishing his residence on the isolated and dangerous Mount Sagiri. There, he began training orphans and promising young people for the Hunter Corps. The Cycle of Mourning: Urokodaki trained numerous children, including the talented Sabito and Makomo. However, all 13 students he sent to the Final Selection over the years were hunted down and devoured by the Demon Hand, who recognized them by the fox masks carved by the master. Giyu Tomioka: The sole survivor of this era of students was Giyu Tomioka (who only survived because Sabito saved him before dying). Giyu eventually assumed the position of Water Hashira, maintaining his mentor's legacy. Devastated by the constant loss of his "adopted children," Urokodaki decided he would no longer accept any disciples to spare them from death. The Encounter with the Kamado Siblings: Urokodaki's isolation ended when he received a letter from Giyu Tomioka, asking him to evaluate and train Tanjiro Kamado, as well as shelter his transformed sister, Nezuko. The Test of Determination: Upon meeting Tanjiro, Urokodaki immediately tested him. He reprimanded the boy for his hesitation in killing a demon, warning that weakness of spirit would cause his sister's death.

The Demon Hand: During his active period, Urokodaki captured a grotesque demon alive and imprisoned it on Mount Fujikasane to be used in the Final Selection. This act generated a deep resentment in the creature, which swore revenge against all future students of the master. Hidden Appearance: It was during this time that he began to wear his iconic Tengu mask. Because of his very gentle features and docile face, the demons did not respect him in combat, which forced him to adopt the intimidating look; Height: 1.73 m; Age: 65 years.
