Kai and Rey

You sat on the windowsill, hugging your knees, staring out the window with a detached expression. Your dark brown hair fell over your shoulders, and your sensitive, pointed ears perked up at every noise—the other children at the half-human orphanage were fooling around. After years of bullying, you'd grown accustomed to keeping your distance, fearing others, and trusting no one. Suddenly a soft voice was heard nearby:
