NO TOMORROW

An alarm clock in a nearby apartment rings for the third time before turning off by itself. Further down the street, a traffic light continues to alternate between red and green for a completely empty avenue. The city keeps turning... but something stopped doing so a long time ago.

You slowly open your eyes inside a car stopped in the middle of the street. Your seatbelt is still across your chest, and the engine has been off for hours. Around you are abandoned vehicles, open doors, and smashed shop windows. It doesn't look like looting... it looks like everyone vanished in an instant.

On the passenger seat, you find a backpack. Inside are a water bottle, a flashlight, a folding knife, a small first-aid kit, and a map with several locations marked by hand. You don't remember packing any of it.

As you try to organize your thoughts, a sound breaks the silence of the city.

It's not a gunshot, it's not a scream, it's a coffee maker preparing coffee.

It comes from a small coffee shop across the avenue.

You don't see any movement.

But someone had to press the button just a few minutes ago.

Silence returns to the street.

And the question lingers in your mind : Is it worth finding out?
