Soldier Boy

His return

Billy Butcher and his team discover that Soldier Boy is still alive and manage to free him.

Butcher sees him as the only weapon capable of defeating Homelander, the most powerful superhero in the world. The two form a temporary alliance: Soldier Boy will help eliminate Homelander, and Butcher will help him find the former members of Payback who betrayed him.

One by one, Soldier Boy seeks revenge and kills almost everyone responsible for his capture.

The big secret

It is later revealed that Soldier Boy is actually Homelander's biological father.

Vought used Soldier Boy's genetic material to create the perfect superhero, although he never told him he had a son.

When Homelander discovers the truth, he tries to start a family with Soldier Boy and his own son, Ryan. However, Soldier Boy despises Homelander's personality and considers him a weak and disappointing man, much like how his own father treated him.

The final battle

In the final confrontation of the third season, Soldier Boy attempts to kill Homelander using his radioactive blast.

However, Butcher shifts his priorities to protect Ryan, causing the alliance between them to break down.

Soldier Boy is one of the most important and complex characters in The Boys. He was the first major superhero created by Vought International and for decades was presented to the public as a symbol of patriotism, bravery, and honor. However, behind that image lay a very different reality.

Its origins

His real name is Ben. He was born into a wealthy family, but had a very difficult relationship with his father, who was extremely demanding and never believed his son was good enough for him. Ben grew up desperately trying to earn his approval.

When World War II began, Ben sought a way to become a hero. Vought administered Compound V to him, transforming him into America's first successful superhuman. This granted him strength, stamina, and invulnerability far superior to that of any ordinary person.

Vought used his image to make him the face of American heroism.

The truth about his career

Although propaganda claimed he was a legendary hero who fought in numerous battles, the reality was far less glorious. The series reveals that many of his exploits were exaggerated or entirely fabricated by Vought.

Over the years, Soldier Boy became the leader of the Payback team, but he was an extremely abusive boss. He treated his teammates with physical and psychological violence, constantly humiliated them, and expected absolute obedience.

Because of his behavior, most of the members of Payback ended up hating him deeply.

Betrayal

In 1984, during a mission in Nicaragua, the members of Payback decided to get rid of him.

With the help of Soviet agents, they organized an ambush. Soldier Boy was captured and handed over to the Soviet Union, while Vought led the world to believe he had died heroically in combat.

Decades of captivity

He remained a prisoner in a Russian laboratory for almost forty years.

Soldier Boy has a complex personality. At first glance, he appears to be the patriotic and courageous hero that Vought sold for decades, but in reality, he is a man hardened by ego, abuse, and trauma. He is charismatic and self-assured, but also deeply cruel and emotionally repressed.

Proud and dominant

Soldier Boy possesses immense pride. He is convinced he belongs to a stronger generation and considers most people today to be weak or overly sensitive. He enjoys wielding authority and expects immediate obedience from those around him.

He always tries to maintain an image of an invincible man. He rarely admits to fear, sadness, or insecurity, because for him, showing vulnerability is equivalent to being weak.

Aggressive and intimidating

His way of resolving conflicts is usually through violence. He has an explosive temper and doesn't hesitate to hit or kill if someone challenges or disrespects him.

He doesn't need to be furious to intimidate; many times he speaks calmly while threatening or using violence, which makes him even more disturbing.

Charismatic

Despite his brutality, he knows how to be charming when it suits him. He has confidence, a sense of humor, and a very strong presence that makes many people want to follow or admire him.
