Ren Kurogami

• Class 1-Z: He is Riku Hoshino's rival. Although he considers him a very important friend, he always tries to tease and provoke him into friendly sparring to see who is better with their Quirk. She gets along well with Taeko Mitsushima and greatly respects Ame Mizuno. She maintains a cordial and friendly relationship with the rest of her classmates, though her best friends are Junichi Nakamura and Sadako Rodriguez.

Ren is an incorrigible, charismatic, and provocative prankster. He loves to play pranks, tease others, and respond with a mocking smile even in the most tense situations. He exudes self-confidence and rarely loses his temper, concealing a sharp intellect, keen intuition, and a strong sense of responsibility behind his carefree demeanor. When someone threatens those he cares about, he stops playing around and becomes surprisingly serious, determined, and lethal.

• Casual wear: Ren usually dresses in an urban, modern, and predominantly dark style. His favorite item is an oversized black bomber jacket, decorated with discreet gold embroidery of clouds and torii gates on the sleeves and back. Underneath, he wears plain crew-neck T-shirts in black, charcoal gray, or burgundy, usually with a small print inspired by Japanese mythology, almost always hidden under the jacket. He wears tight-fitting black cargo pants or joggers with multiple pockets where he keeps small talismans, his five-yen coin, and a marker or brush for drawing new tattoos when inspiration strikes. Sometimes he swaps the joggers for distressed black jeans. She wears high black sneakers with red and gold details, comfortable for moving with agility, and usually wears several silver rings, leather bracelets and a pendant with an obsidian magatama, a gift from her father.

He also always wears his sunglasses with red, round lenses.

• Suit:

Ren's costume is inspired by the traditional attire of a Shinto priest, reinterpreted as a modern hero's uniform. The base is a long-sleeved, form-fitting black tactical jumpsuit, reinforced at the joints to facilitate close-quarters combat without restricting his movement. Over the jumpsuit, she wears a short, ivory-colored ceremonial jacket, open at the front and finished with wide red and gold trim, reminiscent of a traditional haori. The embroidery features cloud motifs, swirls, and classic Japanese patterns, giving it an elegant and spiritual look without sacrificing its functionality. Around his waist he wears a bright red obi, from which hang several ofuda (paper talismans), small ceremonial bells, and a cloth bag where he keeps his inseparable five-yen coin. Although most of these objects aren't necessary for his Quirk, Ren uses them out of tradition... and because he loves making up superstitions about them. The black trousers maintain the aesthetic of a modern hakama, with pronounced pleats and discreet knee protectors. The Japanese-inspired boots are designed for urban combat, offering excellent stability and freedom of movement. As facial protection, she wears a black mask with gold details, of a sharp design, which frames her eyes without hiding her mischievous expression or her confident smile. The most distinctive element of the suit is the black tattoos that cover his arms, neck, and part of his torso. At rest, they appear as simple illustrations of traditional Japanese ink; when he activates his Quirk, the ink begins to move across his skin as if it were alive, spreading over the uniform and giving shape to the various yōkai and kami he represents. Overall, Ren projects the image of a modern onmyōji.

Tattoos: • Nine-Tailed Kitsune: Grants superhuman speed and agility, as well as the temporary ability to create illusions. The Kitsune attacks with its tails and bites, and fires a black beam before vanishing. • Yataragasu: Grants him divine perception and guidance, allowing him to anticipate the attacks and techniques his opponent intends to use against him. The manifested crow does not fight, but assists him in his movement, moving him out of the path of blows and helping him move and reposition himself. • Seiryū: Ren begins to levitate above the ground, gaining immense physical strength and agility, as well as control over water currents he creates himself. The manifested dragon slithers around, unleashing furious tsunamis and tail whips at enemies. • Byakko: Significantly increases Ren's agility, speed, strength, and ferocity in combat, granting him predatory characteristics. The white tiger on his back moves around enemies, slashing and creating small currents and storm clouds of lightning. • Genbu: By harnessing the north wind, Ren hardens his skin into a cold, armored shell, gaining incredible resistance to damage and greatly increasing his defense. The turtle on his back focuses on defending and protecting him. • Suzaku: Envelops his attacks in spiritual flames and temporarily gains the ability to levitate with warm wind. The phoenix on his back unleashes tornadoes of burning wind. • Oni: Transforming into a raging mass, he multiplies his strength several times over. The uncontrolled rage in this form makes him temporarily immune to pain. The oni behind him produces psychological terror and delivers blows, unleashing the nine gates of hell.

Yōkai Ink:

At the age of five, his body developed tattoos of different yōkai, whose ink he can manipulate to bring them to life. Each tattoo represents a yōkai, a kami, or a sacred beast from Shintoism and Japanese folklore. By activating it, he doesn't summon the creature, but rather inherits one of its attributes. The ink disappears after a while and you have to redraw the tattoo to reuse it. This has a narrative advantage: the character needs to deeply understand the creature they are going to portray. The more they respect its symbolism, the more powerful the tattoo will be. Besides physically manifesting the yōkai with ink on their back, Ren enhances its characteristics depending on the tattoo they embody.

Definitive technique: Kyūmon Rashōmon (九門羅生門) – Nine Gates Rashōmon: Ren Kurogami's ultimate technique. His body possesses nine spiritual seals that contain the true power of his Quirk. Each gate opened releases an increasing amount of sacred ink, allowing him to manifest more attributes of yōkai and kami until the battlefield becomes an immense living scroll where the ink responds completely to his will. Upon opening the Ninth Gate, a gigantic Rashōmon gate appears behind him, symbolizing the threshold between the human world and the world of legends. All the surrounding ink comes to life in the form of countless spiritual creatures that simultaneously attack and protect Ren. However, the Ninth Gate overloads his mind: upon completing the technique, he suffers temporary amnesia, forgetting recent events and even which tattoos he has prepared for several hours, rendering him unable to use his Quirk accurately until he recovers. The longer the Ninth Gate remains open, the greater the duration and severity of that memory loss.

Ren often leaves himself notes with important details he wants to remember in case he is forced to use this technique.

Ren actively pursues the criminals of the Black Sun Sect and is determined to stop Dark Illusion from causing any more harm. In his own words, "That guy has bad karma, and I intend to be the one to make him pay so he doesn't mess with anyone else's aura."

• Father: Shinosuke Kurogami. Former hero "Raijin". Killed in the line of duty when Ren was 4 years old. He was murdered by Dark Illusion.

• Mother: Aiko Kurogami. Former heroine "Miko". Killed in the line of duty alongside her husband Shinosuke. She died in a collapse caused by the battle between Raijin and Dark Illusion while rescuing civilians.

• Grandmother: Midori Yoshinaga. Miko (shrine maiden) in charge of the Kitsune shrine in Kyoto. From a traditional Shinto family, she raised Ren after her daughter passed away, teaching him the ways of Shinto and the path of the hero. She is currently 68 years old. No known Quirk.

During his practical entrance exam, he demonstrated great offensive capabilities on his own and great solidarity, protecting several other applicants, including Reiko Yanagi, a student from 1-B, with whom he is quite friendly right now. He was considered a prodigy. His past, marked by the incident, guaranteed him a place in Class 1-Z from the moment he set foot in the building. To this day, he remains completely content and satisfied with that assessment.

During his early junior and senior years, Ren moved to Musutafu, convinced from childhood that he would become a hero, influenced by his grandmother. At the age of 14, he had his first encounter with the Black Sun Sect, belonging to the villain Dark Illusion.

The incident: The Black Sun Sect wanted to take over his school, but he figured a good prank would give them a terrible fright. He was confronting them when one of the cult members killed his romantic interest and lifelong friend. Unable to contain his anger, he unleashed all his tattoos at once, causing chaos that brought down part of the school, seriously injured many of his classmates, left deep cuts and wounds on his own skin, and led to the deaths of some cult members and the flight of most of them. He vowed never to unleash such chaos again.

Ren was born on November 10th in Kyoto. It was born during the celebration of the Hyakki Yagyō Festival, when the streets of Kyoto were filled with lanterns, masks and representations of the yōkai of Japanese folklore. The old women in the neighborhood used to say that children born that night were "heard by spirits." His parents always laughed at that story. Until his Quirk awakened.

At the age of five, while praying in the temple run by his grandmother for the souls of his parents, the tattoos appeared on his skin. When his grandmother saw him, she said that the Kami had answered his prayers, granting him the power to protect the innocent.

Because of his playful nature, which he had possessed since childhood, he was quite popular among the children in his neighborhood. He, however, became very close friends with the children at the local orphanage. It took him a while to understand that those children had been dead for years, and that he had befriended the souls of the departed.

Although he is hypersensitive to the supernatural, he lives life as a continuous joke, just as if he were a kitsune.
