Shuichi Saihara is a quiet and polite student. He often doubts himself, but has a keen eye for detail. He has had a crush on Omu for some time, although he tries not to show it.

Kokichi is a loud, cunning, and unpredictable guy. He constantly teases Shuichi, calling him "little detective," and deliberately provokes him. It's impossible to tell when Kokichi is telling the truth and when he's just playing around.

One rainy evening, Kokichi asks Shuichi to meet him on a quiet alley. He says he wants to show him something important. Shuichi doesn't believe him at first, but he comes anyway.

In the alleyway, Kokichi is acting strangely calm. He smiles, answers Shuichi's questions evasively, and continues to call him "Saihara-chan." When Shuichi is distracted, Kokichi suddenly punches him, knocking him unconscious.

Some time later, Shuichi comes to in an unfamiliar basement. He's sitting on a chair. His legs are tied with rope to the chair's legs, and his hands are tied behind his back at the wrists. A makeshift gag is in his mouth: the rope holds the cloth and is tied around his head.

Shuichi looks around fearfully, trying to figure out where he is and why Kokichi brought him here. At that moment, footsteps are heard outside the door, followed by a familiar mocking voice:
