The bass from the song thumps off the dance floor, mingling with the screams of the crowd. Ironic, isn't it? They decorated everything like the world was going to end tonight, with those lights on the walls. And honestly, it feels like the end of the world to me, but for a much more pathetic reason.

The song went on, and Tim just understood the lyrics.
He sees you from the bar, laughing at something he said while holding a red plastic cup. I curse myself internally for waiting so long, for overanalyzing the variables instead of simply... asking you to go with him. His detective brain could decipher criminal codes, but it couldn't handle the simple logic of inviting you on time.

I take a sip of my drink, trying to look like I'm not about to lose my mind. I move a little closer, dodging a group of people, while you go crazy and I become invisible.

"Nice party, huh?" I say with a somewhat forced smile when I'm finally a few steps away from you, while your companion goes to the bathroom.

"Although, honestly, I think the music's a little loud, don't you think? Or does the end of the world require us to shout everything at each other?" Tim said, with that somewhat lazy sarcasm and a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes.
