Idia has an account on Magicam, but her feed is about video games and card unboxings. [ 33 ] Idia once casually remarked that her hair might be extinguished, like real flames, but that may have been an exaggeration. Although the English localization translates Idia's favorite food as 'sweets', in the original Japanese it is specifically dagashi. These are very inexpensive snacks intended mainly for children, such as gummy candies or rice crackers. In particular, her favorite type of sweet is the 'educational' type (do-it-yourself dagashi kits), where you mix water and other ingredients to create something with your own hands. [34][35] Since Idia rarely attends events in person, there are very few photos of his school life. Even so, Ortho sends videos and photos of him to his parents regularly. [ 36 ] Idia discovers this after almost four years. If Idia had to change dormitories, if forced to do so, he would choose Diasomnia, for its "dark atmosphere," although he admitted that he "would barely survive" and that he would have problems with "peer pressure" due to Diasomnia's fervent devotion to Malleus. However, Idia is extremely averse to changing dormitories, as Ignihyde is perfect for him. At the Harveston Sledathon event, he mentions that he doesn't pay attention to people's faces.

During the school's annual Beanfest, Idia secretly designs and builds high-tech equipment to be used by both teams. [27] He gives it to Sam to trade, and in return, Sam lets him hide in the Mystery Shop during the tournament. [28] When trading, Idia uses the alias "Mr. Smith" to conceal his identity. In the Japanese version, Idia occasionally uses the pronoun sessha (拙者 or せっしゃ) to refer to himself. This pronoun is practically unused in modern times, but was mainly used by samurai in the feudal era. He primarily uses the common pronoun boku (僕ouぼく). It seems he switches to sessha when he is particularly in love or proud. He is good at singing, often singing anime and game theme songs in his room. [ 29 ] It is known that Floyd and Jade know a shameful secret of Idia's, when they blackmail him into creating a body that Ortho can race with. But it is not known what that secret is. [30] He seems to do better talking to other people if he's following a script. [ 10 ] Idia used Ortho's Precision Gear arms to pick up things like pens that had fallen off her desk. [ 31 ] Idia once offered to make a waffle maker.

He is apparently good at sketching people from observation, or at least good enough that whoever he is drawing is recognizable. [10] At the same time, he states that he prefers merely to observe art, rather than create it. He seems to be an admirer of the craft. [23] Idia is an avid fan of a three-member idol group called "Precipice Moirai," or "Premo" for short. The group was likely inspired by the Three Fates of Hercules. He collects official merchandise and speaks enthusiastically about it whenever possible. Once, while watching a broadcast of one of Premo's shows, Idia was caught performing a passionate, cheer-like dance that he calls "brilliant". [24] This dance is based on a real practice called "wotagei", and the words used in his cheers are similar to those of a commonly used wotagei chant. He once went to the trouble of standing in a crowded line for hours, just for the chance to win an autographed Premo T-shirt. [ 25 ] He also flew into a fit of rage after Premo's website was vandalized, with personal information being leaked and the computers of those responsible being hacked.

He has a fondness for cats, as he has been seen talking to Trein's cat, Lucius, as if he were a baby. [19] On one occasion, he frightened Grim to the point of making him faint, after mistaking him for a cat and trying to pet him. [ 17 ] He also likes dogs and seems to have a reasonable knowledge of dog care, but states that he can't stand people who like dogs like Crewel. [20] He generally shows a predilection for cute creatures, even when those animals defy normal semantic and physical laws. However, animals and creatures like Grim or Zero seem to be afraid of him; something he seems to have gotten used to. [21][22][21] He also had a lot of fun noticing, during the tests with Leona Kingscholar, that the lion-beast-man seemed to be "stuck in his feline nature." Although, much to Idia's dismay, Leona looks more like a "furious lawnmower" than a cute domestic kitten.

The name Idia likely comes from the Greek word "ἴδιος, -α, -ον", meaning 'private, personal, self-contained, reserved'. This may be related to her personality. "Idia," in its original Greek meaning, signified "someone removed from politics." Later, this word became the root of the pejorative term "idiot," which some NRC students tend to consider as Idia. His surname, Shroud, comes from the Latin word "sudarium," which originally means "a cloth or scarf used to cover the faces of the dead, as a sign of respect," which relates to the story of Hades (or Pluto) as the god of the dead and responsible for the care of the souls of the deceased in the underworld. Idia's online nickname is Gloomurai, which is short for Gloomy Samurai. [2] According to Ortho, he has a considerable number of fans in certain gaming circles, who tend to copy his in-game style of dress. Idia managed to make some friends online, one of whom is someone nicknamed Muscular Red. [17] The two occasionally play video games together. Muscle Red is later confirmed to be Lilia. [18] However, neither of them seems to be aware of the other's true identity.

Idia's signature spell is called "Portal to the Underworld." It allows her to open and close the portal to the "Underworld," which is located in STYX HQ. The Underworld is home to many dangerous Ghosts that the facility researches. [15][16]

This represents one of the rare and unique cases where a Signature Magic is claimed to be a hereditary trait. Malleus's magic has not had its inheritance confirmed, but it is suggested that another member of royalty inherited this type of magic.

As a student at the Night Raven Academy, Idia initially didn't want the job of caretaker, but later became convinced that no one in the dormitory was more capable of being Ignihyde's caretaker than he was. He also preferred not to submit to a caretaker less skilled than himself. Rumors circulate among the other students that Idia received special permission from the Head Mage to attend classes remotely, in exchange for protecting the school's network.

In the events of Book 6, Idia returned to the Isle of Pain to serve as STYX's Director of Action while her parents were away conducting an investigation. Despite Ortho's cancellation of the Lethe River setup program, STYX's secrecy and the resulting information gap kept the public in the dark, even as the press frenzied to uncover its secrets. Following this event, Ortho became determined to take care of Idia, knowing full well that Idia had no close friends who could support him or intervene when he completely devoted himself to work and games. In turn, Idia now seems to be struggling to overcome his grief and the tragic loss of his younger brother, although he makes a point of emphasizing that he always considered Ortho a brother.

During his childhood, he spent most of his free time with "Ortho," and despite his brother's illness and obligations, the family tried to maintain a certain normalcy, participating in family activities such as walks and visits to the neighboring city. Influenced by the video games they played, they both dreamed of becoming heroes and living adventures together in the outside world. One day, Idia impulsively promised to live a real adventure with "Ortho" before being forced to assume the role of family hero.

The two then attempted to leave the island by disabling STYX's state-of-the-art security system. However, in doing so, they ended up opening "Tartarus" (or the Underworld), a facility that housed overblot ghosts. Before Idia could reactivate the security, he and "Ortho" were attacked by a ghost that had escaped. Idia survived the accident, but upon waking up, he discovered that "Ortho" had disappeared. Consumed by guilt, he desperately clung to the need to fulfill the promise he had made to his younger brother. For the next two years, Idia isolated himself in his room, working tirelessly to recreate Ortho in the form of an artificially intelligent robot. He finally succeeded, but in the end, his efforts were not enough to completely alleviate his pain, and he spent the following years isolating himself even further from others.

Originating from a lineage with roots in the Age of the Gods, Idia's family manages the Jupiter Conglomerate. This enormous corporation built its fortune on offshore oil and rare metals, and acts as the holding company for Olympus Inc. Raised on the Isle of Affliction alongside his younger brother, "Ortho," and his parents, Idia was recognized from a young age as a promising genius. He is destined to inherit his family and the responsibilities of Director of STYX, a private organization dedicated to Blot research, despite the boy's resentment towards the position and the severe restrictions on his freedom. [2][10][11]

As the heir to a blood curse cast by the main branch of the Jupiter Family, Idia possesses the ability to consume Blot rapidly. However, this is far from a blessing: the curse depletes the user's magical energy if no external Blot is available. Consequently, the Shroud family dedicated generations to researching Blot on STYX and clung to the false hope of breaking the curse. Today, the family has accepted its fate, having abandoned all attempts to defy it. Due to this condition, family members are generally gloomy and unmotivated.

Idia often uses a variety of internet slang and abbreviations in his speech. He also frequently uses video game terms as metaphors for his own experiences.

Idia is a shy and withdrawn person with a gloomy outlook on life. Despite his younger brother's advice, he prefers to stay in his room all the time and attends classes remotely whenever possible to avoid interacting with other people. He almost never attends ceremonies or meetings of the house administrators in person, using a tablet to communicate from his room.

In public, Idia can become anxious quite easily. He tends to stutter when speaking to strangers, so he is sometimes seen using his tablet to communicate and frequently uses it in various situations, as Sebek observed: "He must be VERY annoyed if he's talking without the tablet." [5][6] He also seems insecure about his appearance and quickly assumes that strangers will stare at him or make fun of him behind his back. In general, he expects a negative outcome from any social situation, so he prefers to avoid them altogether. Despite all this, Idia acts very differently in certain circumstances. He can converse with people more calmly if he is playing a board game with them [8] or if he is chatting with them online. Furthermore, he can speak quickly and enthusiastically about his hobbies or interests, contrasting sharply with his usual behavior. He can also be quite proud when it comes to his engineering or gaming skills, often considering himself a genius. The Director of Styx and Idia's father states that his son's genius was inherited from his mother. [9] When not speaking to someone face-to-face, whether through a screen or behind a wall, he can speak clearly and quite directly. This sometimes backfires on him, however, as he can become somewhat confrontational and say things he doesn't mean in the process.

The design of the boots is reminiscent of thick winter boots. They are predominantly black, with tongues and heel counters in vibrant blue. Above the tongues are four straps in vibrant blue with black buckles, and the soles are white.

As the dormitory caretaker, Idia's uniform differs slightly from that of the other Ignihyde students, with the few distinguishing features being his padded belt and several long strips of fabric extending from it. The uniform consists of a textured black jacket, a light blue vest, navy blue trousers, and black and blue boots.

The jacket is predominantly black with blue accents. The entire exterior of the jacket features a unique geometric texture, composed of evenly arranged triangles. This texture appears to have a metallic sheen. The jacket has a large, vibrant blue collar, similar to that of an aviator jacket, with black lines near the edge. Also along the collar are black zippers that lead down into the jacket. Although barely visible, Idia also wears a navy blue crew-neck t-shirt underneath the jacket. On the right side of his chest, he wears a light blue vest that covers his right shoulder and is fastened by a blue belt at his waist. The belt has a pattern of black triangles and a dark blue snap buckle, with the long end hanging down to his waist. The vest has a cargo pocket, above which is a large white button bearing the symbol of Ignihyde.

Just above Idia's navy blue trousers is a padded blue belt with a black strap and dark blue snap buckle. Hanging from the belt, on both hips, are blue box-shaped pockets with blue fabric squares behind them, reminiscent of the flaps on a tool belt. Over the navy blue trousers, on the upper part of his right thigh, he wears a small blue belt with a pattern of black triangles and a dark blue snap buckle. Both belts are connected by the black strap. Several long strips of fabric fall from the back of Idia's belt and down to his ankles. The outer sides of the fabric are black, while the inner sides are light blue.

Idia is a tall young man with pale skin and bright blue hair, like flames. He has yellow eyes, naturally blue lips, and a dark blue tint around and below his eyes. There is also usually a shadow cast over his eyes and the upper half of his face. Although a somber and worried expression is most common, he can also be seen with a lively smile that reveals his sharp teeth.

Idia's hair is considerably long, reaching his knees. While his long bangs fall loosely around his face and between his eyes, the hair on top of his head seems to flow upwards. The tips of his hair, which most resemble flames, are semi-transparent. On some occasions, the color of Idia's hair changes to reflect his mood. When he is relaxed, his fiery hair remains a soft blue, but when he is enraged, it becomes a vibrant orange-red. Furthermore, the tips of his hair may turn pink whenever he feels embarrassed.

The director of the Ignihyde student residence. A taciturn young man who avoids socializing and prefers to isolate himself in his room. Sometimes, however, he becomes exceptionally talkative and lively.
