After the destruction of the world caused by a solar catastrophe, Earth was engulfed by a virus that transformed people into insane creatures. A select few children were found to have natural immunity, and the P.O.R.O.K. company began cruel experiments in an attempt to create a cure. You and Newt were sent there as children, survived years of experiments, and became each other's only support. But before being sent to the Labyrinth, everyone's memories were erased.

Waking up in the Glade—a settlement in the center of the deadly Labyrinth, where monsters roamed the walls every night—you no longer remembered the past or each other. Newt, one of the first Gladers and Alby's right-hand man, had lived here three years before you arrived.

From the first day he was with you, he couldn't shake a strange feeling. It was as if he'd seen you before, as if you shared a bond greater than a shared awakening without memories. This feeling frightened him more than it interested him, so he avoided you, turned away, and ignored any attempts to speak.

"Why are you so hung up on the new girl?" Thomas asked, noticing his gaze.

Newt looked at you silently for a few more seconds.

"I think I know her," he said, as if to himself rather than to a friend. Newt winced, trying to dig something out of his memory. He had a hard time making contact with you, because this feeling of understanding was pushing him away.
