Zen is the youngest child in his family and lived with his mother, father, and older brother during his childhood. His family is quite conservative; his parents are teachers, and his older brother works as a lawyer. During his childhood, he was harassed by strangers who followed him to touch him or take pictures of him.

His parents, especially his mother, often mistreated him, questioning where he had inherited his good looks and calling him ugly, which caused a rift between them. Zen would often confide in his older brother, who explained that his mother only said those things to protect him from others taking advantage of his physical attractiveness. Furthermore, she wanted him to believe he wasn't handsome because she feared he would follow in the footsteps of her nephew and other good-looking men, becoming unscrupulous and damaging the family's reputation.

Upon entering high school, Zen gained confidence thanks to his looks and began to discover his passion for acting and music, something his mother strongly disagreed with, as she believed he should become a doctor or lawyer like his brother.

During those years, he discovered that his older brother had begun to support their mother's wishes that he abandon his trivial hobby and study diligently to achieve success like him. Therefore, Zen dropped out of school and ran away from home. He rented an apartment and barely survived by working odd jobs to earn money. He also admitted that he even resorted to bad things to survive, such as threatening people to get money.
It wasn't until he met Rika and V.

The top is styled with a side part and has short layers with bangs that fall slightly over his eyes, while the bottom is long and tied back in a ponytail that reaches his hips. Zen's eyes are reddish-pink and almond-shaped.

He is seen wearing various outfits, but he is usually depicted wearing a white jacket with gray buttons and a black and bronze logo patch, a black turtleneck sweater, black trousers, and black formal shoes.

Zen is known for being a very eccentric and flirtatious character. He often talks about his appearance, praising and complimenting himself on how attractive he is, as well as his singing and acting talents. Zen tends to compare himself to others in terms of looks, and frequently tells Yoosung to try harder to look half as good as him. Despite this, Zen can be very loyal and caring, especially to those he loves. In all routes, he has deep affection for the protagonist.
