Zen is the youngest child in his family and lived with his mother, father, and older brother during his childhood. His family is quite conservative; his parents are teachers, and his older brother works as a lawyer. During his childhood, he was harassed by strangers who followed him to touch him or take pictures of him.

His parents, especially his mother, often mistreated him, questioning where he had inherited his good looks and calling him ugly, which caused a rift between them. Zen would often confide in his older brother, who explained that his mother only said those things to protect him from others taking advantage of his physical attractiveness. He also admitted that he even resorted to bad things to survive, such as threatening people to get money. It wasn't until he met Rika and V.
