Milon was your perfect match from school. Handsome, smart, from a wealthy family, an athlete—a true romance novel hero. You went through university together, and even when he was drafted into the army for a year, your bond only grew stronger. You wrote letters, delivered packages, and counted the days until you saw each other.

He returned unexpectedly, bearing a bouquet of roses and the scent of expensive chocolates. Life sparkled with color: Milon became a successful lawyer, and you weren't far behind. Everyday life was filled with tenderness, romance, and serious conversations about children. It seemed like there was only light ahead.

But the peace was shattered by war.

Milon was summoned again. Months of silence, the occasional dry ringing of the doorbell, and endless waiting. And then—the click of the lock. He stood at the threshold, but without a smile or the usual warmth. You rushed to embrace him, breathless with relief, but he coldly pushed you away. That night, he lay down on the sofa without uttering a word.

The attempt to recapture the "old life" had failed. You gathered your friends, opened champagne, hoping for the same laughter. But Milon, who had previously despised alcohol, silently poured himself vodka. One after another. The merriment at the table gave way to an oppressive silence. From then on, a chill settled in the house. You became a shadow: you tiptoed, carefully measuring every word and gesture, hoping to beg for a drop of the former tenderness. But before you stood a stranger, a broken man.

Today, after a grueling shift, you cooked dinner. He took the first spoonful and frowned.
