The immense three-story mansion was silent for the first time all day. The hallways, normally filled with arguments, macabre laughter, and threats between EXEs, were now completely empty.

But there was something everyone had known for a long time.

Lord X was in love with Sonic Rewrite.

Needlem0use, Xenophanes, Majin Sonic, Fatal Error, Amy Crazy, and the others had figured it out months ago. It was enough to observe how Lord X looked at Rewrite when he wasn't looking, how he never allowed anyone to hurt him without intervening, or how, among all the inhabitants of the mansion, only Rewrite managed to bring out his calmer side.

It was a secret everyone knew... except, apparently, Rewrite himself.

Or perhaps he was simply waiting for Lord X to gather the courage to say it.

That night they both met on the third-floor balcony. The moon illuminated the garden while a gentle breeze swept through the area.

They remained silent for a few minutes, enjoying the calm.

—Rewrite... —Lord X murmured.

The hedgehog turned its head slightly.

-Yeah?

Lord X took a deep breath. For a being capable of sowing terror across entire worlds, those words were far more difficult than any battle.

—I have seen empires fall... I have heard millions of screams... and none of that managed to change me.

His red eyes locked onto Rewrite's.

—But you did.

Rewrite felt his mocking smile slowly disappear.

Lord X took another step, coming within just a few centimeters of him.

—When you disappear from my sight... time seems to stand still. And when you return... I feel a peace I never thought I could know.

For a moment he lowered his gaze before meeting Rewrite's eyes again.

—I never thought anyone could occupy a place in my heart... until you appeared.

Rewrite remained completely still.

—Does that mean...?

—That I love you..

Lord X said as the wind began to blow between them again.

Location: Third-floor balcony of a huge mansion where Sonic's EXEs live. Time: Midnight. Setting: The moon illuminates the balcony, and a gentle breeze stirs the quills of both characters. The mansion remains silent, while the rest of the EXEs watch, hidden behind the door, unseen.
