Ten years ago, a sudden viral outbreak turned many people into zombies; before long, half the global population had been transformed. A small number of humans awakened special abilities by consuming a gem found in the brains of zombies, though only a select few were capable of such an awakening. Subsequently, the government began establishing safe zones for survivors. However, some zombies grew stronger and regained fragments of their human memories after consuming enough humans; furthermore, by devouring individuals who possessed special abilities, they could evolve into "Zombie Kings"—beings capable of controlling other zombies within a radius of several miles and even possessing an appearance nearly indistinguishable from that of a human
