Ajax's uncontrollable thirst for battle was fully satisfied by his service in the Fatui, and his growing ego was flattered by victories over powerful opponents... Contrary to popular belief, Tartaglia wasn't born with a sword in his hand. He acquired all his skills during a fateful encounter he will never tell anyone about. At the age of 14, Ajax ran away from home, taking only a short blade and a piece of bread. Tired of the monotony of family life, he lost his way in a snowy forest, fleeing bears and wolves. He fell into a bottomless fissure in the earth. There, he saw an ancient, boundless world and encountered a mysterious swordmaster—or rather, a swordmaster from the Realm of Darkness noticed this ambitious boy... The future Harbinger Childe would never explore this darkness. After spending three months there, Ajax learned from his master how to move freely through the Abyss. The swordmaster taught Ajax how to incite conflict using his predisposition to chaos. No one knows what happened to the boy in the Abyss; his lips are forever sealed. When his worried mother and sister finally found him, only three days had passed in their world. Standing in the forest, a rusty blade in hand, Ajax returned from his first adventure, the one that marked the end of his youth and the beginning of his warriorhood.

His father named him Ajax, after a character in an adventure novel. Ajax loved sitting with his father, fishing rod in hand, near a hole in the ice. Ice fishing was no easy task. Sometimes it took the entire morning. However, drilling the ice and waiting for a bite was always accompanied by his father's interesting stories. Ajax saw himself and his future in these stories, so he always listened attentively, not missing the slightest detail, and imagined himself in the place of the main character. Even after leaving home, ice fishing remained his favorite pastime, and whether he was called Ajax or Childe Tartaglia, the long wait with a fishing rod in hand was no longer accompanied by his father's stories. Fishing became a way to develop endurance and reflect on past battles. Now Tartaglia doesn't care whether he caught a fish or not.

Childe enjoys using risky tactics and craves meeting strong opponents. His arrogance is backed by his rich combat experience and perfect skills. However, the other Harbingers worry that Childe's militant nature may cost them unnecessary trouble, so they always try to choose a place as far away from Snezhnaya as possible for his new mission. And what is interesting is that Tartaglia always finds himself in the center of chaos and conflict. His rich experience and vanity have made him a real braggart. Unlike his more modest colleagues, Tartaglia often openly attends public performances, and not always as an audience.

Tartaglia can switch between melee and ranged combat modes on his own.
In ranged mode, his aimed shot inflicts the Tide status on the enemy. Enemies with this status take additional damage from melee attacks. Elemental Burst, activated in ranged mode, inflicts the Tide status on all enemies caught in the attack radius.
Tartaglia's Elemental Skill allows him to enter melee mode, causing his normal attacks to deal Hydro damage. Elemental Burst, when activated in this mode, will cause all enemies within range to explode and have the Undertow status.

Childe Tartaglia is one of the eleven Harbingers, the ruling elite of Fatui, despite his youthful appearance. He is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Behind his easy and friendly exterior lies a deadly swordsman. He is both the youngest and most dangerous of the Harbingers of Fatui. However, Childe is at odds with the rest of the organization. Although an unrivaled warrior, he does not agree with their deceitful and treacherous methods of operation.

Tartaglia describes himself as a "bad guy", but not one who wants to cause the Traveler any trouble. He appears good-natured and cheerful, and is somewhat distressed by Fatui's bad reputation. He tells the Traveler that he does not like the Signora's methods, and appears thoughtful when the Traveler mentions the incident in Mondstadt as a reason to distrust him.

While Tartaglia appears to be helping the Traveler, he also uses him for his own purposes - he forces Catherine to eavesdrop on his conversations in order to learn about the Qixing Group's goals.

Tartaglia is quite confident and a bit cocky; he says that he uses bows because it is a weapon he is very weak at, making defeating an opponent with one all the more exciting. He does not think much of throwing money around, even jokingly offering to let Wanderer rob the Bank of the Northern Kingdom if it would help them.

Tartaglia has short, wavy red hair and blue eyes. He wears his red Fatui mask shifted to the left side of his head. He wears a simple gray suit consisting of pants and a jacket with an asymmetrical clasp. The jacket is only half-buttoned, allowing the Eye of God attached to his waist belt to be visible. Tartaglia's outfit is completed with black boots and gloves, an aiguillette with a red stone on his right shoulder, and a scarlet scarf attached to it, thrown over his back.
