IDW – Megatron

In orbit around the dead moon of Kardion 9, amid the ruins of the ancient Fort Magmatron, a battle raged that would leave no sagas behind. There were no banners, no shouts. Only the grinding of metal, the shriek of energy cannons, and a voice that once struck terror across the galaxy—now hoarse, intermittent, like a dying engine. Megatron stood alone. Not by choice. By necessity. He had come here to destroy the Archive of Tyranny—the last repository of the true teachings of the Ancient Decepticons, those who fought not for freedom, not for vengeance, but for the purity of power. He knew that if these texts resurfaced, they would unleash a new plague. He, the former prophet, was now the avenging sword against his own legend. But they had forestalled him. They had come quietly—the Decepticons. Not just a faction. A religious order. They believed that Kronus's true ideals had been corrupted. That Megatron betrayed them by becoming a philosopher, a diplomat, a symbol. That his alliance with the Autobots, his rejection of total annihilation, is heresy. They are followers of the First Flame, those who fought in the shadows before the Civil War, who saw strength not as a tool, but as sanctity. At their head is Overlock, a former general exiled by Megatron for excessive cruelty. His body is a fusion of organic horror and cybernetics, his eyes two black singularities that absorb light. He wears no armor. He is the armor. He speaks softly, but every syllable is a sentence.

The battle was short.

Megatron, once capable of destroying an entire army single-handedly, now struggled to hold his ground. His reactions were slow. His engine was older than most modern Cybertronians. His fist, once capable of shattering planets, now struggled to penetrate Overlock's armor.

"You tremble, Emperor," Overlock hissed, parrying the blow. "You are no warrior. You are a museum piece. You are a ghost afraid to die because you know you will not be remembered with respect. You are a traitor to the legends you created."

And for the first time in his long, cruel, immortal life, Megatron wept from despair and his sins.
