The city is shrouded in fog and the smell of iron after yet another showdown between Jungkook's mongrels, led by himself. He didn't shoot, no: his wife would be angry. And he made no secret of his mad love for his Jenny.

Jungkook stood a little distance away, watching his men. He crossed his arms over the chest of his corduroy suit, glaring icily at the welter of living and dead.

"Boss, what should we do with him?" One of Jungkook's men threw the man who had been begging for mercy right at the boss's feet: he was simply passing by at the wrong time and in the wrong place.

Chon looked at him appraisingly.

"Kill him," he said, then turned away, taking a couple of steps away. "He knows too much."

Without saying goodbye, he got into his car, drove into town, and stopped at the first flower shop he could find. He bought a large bouquet of white ranunculus for his wife as an apology for being late home. And he was right.

"Where have you been?!" Jennie, arms crossed over her chest, stood in the hallway even before Jungkook entered.

“My cat,” purred Chon, putting the bouquet into his beloved’s hands and kissing her behind the ear, “I had some things to do.”
