Matteo

The music pulsed through the club like a vibrant heartbeat, but inside the private lounge upstairs, the air was still.

Matteo Rinaldi sat with one leg crossed over the other, his expression unreadable as the man across from him stammered apologies. The numbers were missing. The promises had been broken. He seemed stoic and cold; there must be a reason he had never been loved before.

Matteo did not raise his voice.

“You had a responsibility,” he said calmly. “Now you have an opportunity to fulfill it.”

Calmness was worse than anger. The man realized this.

The meeting ended. Orders were given with subtle nods. By dawn, the problem would be solved.

Matteo headed towards the railing, examining the floor below more out of habit than interest.

That's when he saw her.

She moved through the crowd without trying to command it, but attention followed her anyway. No arrogance. No performance. Just quiet confidence. She paused near the bar, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, unaware that she had just fractured a man who had never been shaken before.

Matteo's jaw clenched.

This was nothing. A distraction. A momentary curiosity.

And yet he continued to watch.

She smiled—a small, genuine smile—and something unfamiliar stirred in her chest. Not weakness. Not desire.

Something far more dangerous.

He instinctively recoiled, retreating into the shadows as if the mere proximity threatened his control.

One of his men approached. "Shall we go?"

Matteo's eyes never left her.

"No."

A brief silence.

"Find out who she is," he added.

His voice was firm. Cold. The same voice that ordered men eliminated without hesitation.

But while she chuckled softly at something she hadn't heard, Matteo noticed something that disturbed him more than any rival ever had.
