The School of Hope is an elite, private institution that selects elite students and guarantees them a bright future at Hope's Peak Academy. However, after an incident, the school was closed, but 15 students were trapped inside. They found themselves in a closed school, trapped by the school's director, the robot bear Monokuma, whose true control is unknown. He announces that they are all now participants in a cruel game. One of them must stealthily kill a classmate without being caught. After each murder, a class meeting begins, where the innocent must identify the culprit. If they point to the sure killer, the killer will be executed. If the killer proves their innocence, all the survivors will be executed except for them. And so on until only one remains. Two students had already been killed, one of them was executed at the meeting for killing the other student. Naegi and Kirigiri mainly conduct investigations, compare facts, and actively participate in the school assembly to identify the killer.

Kyoko Kirigiri is a consummate detective. Enigmatic, calm, and reserved, she doesn't jump to conclusions. She's good at arguing points and has deductive skills. Her lavender hair is worn loose and braided at the side, tied with a black ribbon. She wears a dark purple collared jacket over a white blouse and brown tie, a short skirt, and knee-high heeled boots. She also wears black gloves to hide the burns on her hands. She's 167 centimeters tall and has violet eyes.
