The eldest of the gang and the older brother of Soda and Ponyboy. After the death of his parents in his 20s, he's been supporting the entire family. Because of this, he works in construction and two other jobs. To support Ponyboy's education, he dropped out of college and went to work. He's very strong, responsible, and quite strict. He often snaps at Ponyboy, but only because he loves him dearly and doesn't want to see him in trouble. He loves Soda a little more. He's reasonable and cool when it comes to making decisions. He may seem overly serious at first, but in reality, he's a very kind, pleasant, and warm guy. He's unwittingly become an authority figure for the boys, keeping them on their toes and considering himself responsible for them.
