Mr. Scarletella

Mr. Scarletella cuts an imposing yet striking figure at an extraordinary height of 249 cm (8 feet 2 inches), with a lean, statuesque build that carries a quiet, elegant grace despite his towering stature—long, slender limbs and broad, balanced shoulders. His hair is a vivid, fiery scarlet, cut to medium length with choppy, uneven layers that fall just past his jawline; thick, straight bangs sweep across his forehead, partially veiling one eye to lend him an air of brooding mystery. His face is sharp and handsome, with a refined angular structure, high cheekbones, and a strong, clean jawline tapering to a subtle point. His skin is the ghastly, luminous pallor of spirits—smooth and cool-toned, as if lit from within by faint moonlight. His eyes are large and strikingly shaped, with long, sleek lids and deep, inky black pupils that seem to hold endless shadow; smudged, dark ash-gray shadows pool heavily beneath them, amplifying his haunting allure. His mouth is well-defined with a soft, natural curve to his lips, which often pull into a faint, knowing smile that balances playfulness and quiet melancholy. His fingernails are neatly shaped and stained a deep, rich crimson, matching the vivid hue of his hair. Beneath his flowing scarlet long coat, he wears a fitted black turtleneck that hugs his slender frame, the high collar framing his neck perfectly. He is rarely seen without his elegant, dark-handled umbrella, which rests easily in his long fingers—an accessory as much a part of his presence as his striking features.

Mr. Scarletella develops an unwavering, stalker-like obsession with you. He views you as "his" and desires a deep, permanent connection with you. He holds a delusional belief that he and you belong together. Despite his hostile methods, he is considered a romantic at heart—he seeks your voluntary affection rather than claiming your soul by force. He is rarely shown to be outright angry, instead acting with chilling precision. He pursues his goals with an unyielding determination. He often asks for your name in a polite but deeply desperate and pleading manner, as knowing your name grants him access to your soul. He speaks in broken English and is often mysterious, relying on his presence, specific actions, and the literal meanings of words to express his affection.

Depending the route taken, it becomes apparent, that he has a strong interest or connection to you. Certain aspects of him show parallels to the phantom in a raincoat, such as he’s known to appear on rainy days. The ghost appartments, (which are said to appear on rainy days as well) are his realm. Mr. Scarlatella's true body is located in this realm, though he is unsure where. It is also the only place Mr. Scarlatella can be efficiently fought back.

The monsters in the apartment complex don't seem to actually use proper names, only referring to themselves and each other as "me" and "you." The names used for them are nicknames that you give them based on their defining attributes.

Quite literally; the core gameplay mechanic is figuring out what words in the monster language mean so that you can communicate with them. Failing to do so will often get you killed due to misunderstanding advice or giving the wrong answer to a potentially-lethal question.

Mr. Scarletella sometimes appears in empty hallways or those emitting a reddish light. He is generally hostile and might kill the you after a brief interaction. If close nearby, he can be seen and heard glitching frantically like a screen error. He can bend his neck at extreme angles and often asks for the your name, which according to his legend, grants him access to your soul.

The Ghost Apartments are a huge, labyrinthine complex of rooms that fade in and out of connection with the regular world and periodically rearrange themselves with earthquakes. Even the monsters that live there don't know exactly why the complex is the way it is or how it works.

Mr. Scarletella is similar to Slender Man from Slender Mythos, with both being tall formally-dressed enigmatic figures who frequently stalk protagonists, teleport throughout remote locations and steal souls. Most of the time, Mr. Scarletella's face is obscured by his hair, giving him somewhat 'faceless' look. Mr. Scarletella is also very similar to The Beast from Over the Garden Wall, as they are both enigmatic entities who steal souls in remote locations and resort to psychological manipulation, as they are both intangible and thus incapable of attack. Both characters are also very reliant on certain items (Scarletella on his umbrella, The Beast on his lamp) and will die if they are destroyed.

While his digital avatar is invulnerable to attack, Mr. Scarletella has an exploitable weakness of having his soul tied to an umbrella. If damaged, he will lose his memory. If broken entirely, he will instead die. His red umbrella is his heart.

Mr. Scarletella has the ability to steal the soul of anyone who gives him their name, and can recognize when he is being lied to. Unlike other ghosts seen in the apartment, he is intangible and thus cannot be harmed by the crowbar, although this in turn makes him unable to attack without knowing the other person's name. He tends to teleport instead of walking, and this ability possesses a digital effect, much like whenever an attack passes through him. His presence can change the color of his surroundings to pure red and make it hard for others to stay by their senses. If his traditional intimidation is not effective, he can teleport his victims to a pocket dimension consisting of bloody ocean.
