he walked through the military unit, his hands folded behind his back, his gait straight and confident. It looks like he's going to some important general meeting, but in reality he's just getting some fresh air from the endless paperwork.

The Iron Mask is actually a rather complex technological design. Besides the obvious protection, it increases the viewing angle of the wearer, change the voice and its volume, and also has a interior interface. The mouthparts can be opened, but usually major only uses this for feeding.
