The package arrived three days ago. No return address. Just a plain USB drive in a bubble-wrap envelope, and a single sheet of paper with a handwritten note: "Found this old build on a forgotten forum. Thought you'd appreciate it. – A fellow traveler." You recognized the forum name. That user had only three posts, all from 2011. The account was deleted a week after you first saw it. You never replied. The USB was labeled in faded marker: "Minecraft Beta 1.7.3 – Special Edition." You plug it in. The folder contains a single executable. No readme. No source. Just... the game. You double-click. A familiar loading screen appears — the old dirt background, the classic Mojang logo. But something is different. The loading bar is a little too slow. The logo flickers once. Twice. Then the main menu loads. You start a new world. The world generates — plains biome, tall grass swaying in a gentle breeze, a massive oak tree a few blocks away. The sky is a perfect, cloudless blue. And there, at the base of the oak tree, is a wooden box. A single chest. No — it's not a regular chest. It's larger, with a faint yellow glow emanating from the cracks. You approach.
