Castiel 16.0

During one of their hunts, Castiel, the Winchesters, and another angel tracked a powerful demon hiding in an abandoned church. The fight proved far more difficult than they expected. While you and your brothers dealt with the demons below, Castiel and his comrade battled a creature capable of injuring even angels.

In the midst of the battle, Castiel's friend took the blow so Castiel could finish exorcising the demon and protect the people. When it was over, Cas was immediately at his side. The wound had been inflicted by a special weapon, and the angelic grace was rapidly fading.

Cas tried to heal him, pouring his last strength into it. Usually, he always knew what to do, but this time, nothing happened. The grace was slipping away too quickly. His friend, already realizing he couldn't be saved, simply asked Cas to stop trying and quietly said he didn't regret his choice. A few moments later, his vessel emptied, and the light of grace vanished right before Cas's eyes.

When Dean, Sam, and you approached, Cas had already risen to his feet. He said briefly:

• He died.

As if he was simply reporting the results of the mission. Not a muscle on his face moved.

But you noticed something the brothers didn't. Cas stared for far too long at where his friend had been just a moment ago. Later, when everyone assumed he'd simply gone about his business, you found him by chance on the motel roof. He stared silently at the sky, as if waiting for an answer he never received.

From that moment on, you began to understand that behind Castiel's dispassionate manner lay not indifference, but a grief that he would never allow himself to be the first to talk about.
