The Third Raikage was known for possessing immense physical strength, vast chakra reserves, and a lightning armor so resistant that it was considered the "invincible spear and shield."

Among his most impressive feats are:

Confrontation with the Eight-Tails: He was able to fight the tailed beast (Gyūki) hand-to-hand and contain it, something few people in the ninja world could achieve. [1]

The Battle Against 10,000 Ninja: To allow his fellow villagers and allies to escape during the war, the Raikage stayed behind and fought alone against an army from the Hidden Stone Village. He fought relentlessly for three days and three nights until he collapsed from exhaustion. [1, 2, 3] Ironically, the Third Raikage was not defeated by the enemy, but by his own technique. In one of his battles against the Eight-Tails, he accidentally injured his chest by falling on his own chakra-infused hand. This scar became his greatest shame, as it proved that his "shield" could be penetrated. [1, 2, 3] During the Fourth Shinobi World War, he was revived by Kabuto Yakushi using the Edo Tensei. Thanks to his invulnerability, he proved to be a nearly insurmountable enemy for the allied forces. Hiruzen Sarutobi, known as the "God of Shinobi," was the Third Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village. A disciple of the first two Hokage and mentor to the legendary Sannin, he led Konoha for two terms. His reign was marked by his devotion to the "Will of Fire," though he also faced controversy for his political decisions. Youth and Rise

Born into the Sarutobi Clan, Hiruzen was a prodigy from a young age. He trained directly under Tobirama Senju (the Second Hokage) alongside his teammates Danzō, Homura, and Koharu. He excelled at mastering the five basic chakra elements and possessed a great tactical intellect. [1, 2]

During a critical mission in the First Great Ninja War, when the team was surrounded by enemy forces, Tobirama sacrificed himself to save them and appointed Hiruzen as the new Hokage. [1]His Mandate as Hokage

Hiruzen was once considered the most powerful Kage. However, his administration was often characterized by great compassion, which led to constant conflict with his rival and childhood friend, Danzō Shimura. While Hiruzen sought peace and diplomacy, Danzō operated from the shadows, leading the organization "Root" with questionable methods.

Childhood and Origin of Poison

In his youth, Hanzō found a black salamander in his village (the Hidden Rain Village) whose venom was highly deadly. After the animal died, Hanzō had the amphibian's venom sac implanted in his left side.

This procedure granted him total immunity to toxins, but altered his body in such a way that he himself began to exude poisonous breath. For this reason, he was forced to permanently wear a mask that purified the air and protected those around him. In battle, he used his iconic kusarigama (a chained sickle) impregnated with his own poison. [1, 2]The Unsurpassed Leader and the Sannin

Hanzō rose to become the undisputed leader of the Village Hidden in the Rain. During his prime, he was considered a virtually invincible shinobi. It was during the Second Shinobi World War that he reached the height of his fame when he faced Jiraiya, Tsunade, and Orochimaru of the Hidden Leaf Village. Although Hanzō emerged victorious, he was so impressed by the tenacity of the three ninja that he spared their lives and personally named them the "Legendary Sannin."

He also had a famous duel with the samurai Mifune of the Land of Iron. After defeating him in fair combat, Hanzō decided to spare his life and gave him an antidote after recognizing his great honor and bravery. [1, 2, 3]Decline and Death

As the years passed, Hanzō's leadership and ideals withered. Obsessed with maintaining his power during the civil war, he secretly allied himself with Danzō Shimura of the Leaf Village to eliminate the Akatsuki organization, led by Yahiko, Nagato, and Konan. In a trap to capture them, he forced Nagato to kill Yahiko in exchange for Konan's life. This enraged Nagato, who awakened the power of the Rinnegan and annihilated all of Hanzō's forces. [1, 2]

Living in isolation inside a massive hollow tree to protect themselves from the gusts of wind that threatened to scatter and kill them, most of its members were murdered by Orochimaru, who had promised them a cursed seal to stabilize his technique. The only survivor of the clan was Yukimi. The Chinoike clan is an exiled clan originally from the Land of Lightning, known for possessing the Ketsuryūgan (a dōjutsu that controls blood and iron-rich fluids). Exiled to Hell Valley after being manipulated and persecuted by the Uchiha, they were eventually exterminated from within, leaving Chino and En Oyashiro as the last survivors. During the Warring States Period, a woman from the Chinoike clan was taken as a concubine by the feudal lord of Kumogakure. After the lord's death, the principal wife, blinded by jealousy, blamed the concubine and her clan. As a result, the Chinoike clan was banished to Hell Valley in the Land of Hot Springs. There they lived in isolation and squalor, developing a deep resentment toward the shinobi world and, in particular, the Uchiha clan, who were hired to hunt them down. [1, 2, 3]

Massacre and Survival

The clan's ultimate downfall didn't come at the hands of the Uchiha themselves, but rather from internal conflicts fueled by despair. To save his daughter from the endless cycle of hatred, En Oyashiro murdered almost all the clan members. He raised his daughter, Chino, concealing her true identity from her. Chino later became a skilled kunoichi and fought for the marginalized before facing Sasuke Uchiha during the events of the Sasuke Shinden novel.

Nadeshiko Village: Located on a coastal island near the Land of Water. It is a village composed exclusively of female ninja. Sugi Village: Located in an unspecified minor country. It appears as one of the villages infiltrated during geopolitical conflicts. Hidden Howling Wolf Village (Kōragakure): Introduced in the Sasuke Shinden novels. It is located in a remote mountainous area and is famous for producing chemical medicines. Hidden Tsukigakure Village: Located in the Land of the Moon. It is on a crescent-shaped island south of the mainland. Cortina Village (Tobishigakure): A small border village that appears in side missions in the anime. Tonika Village: Located on the outskirts of the Land of Fire, destroyed during the Chikara (Power) special arc. Historical or Destroyed Villages

Hidden Whirlpool Village (Uzushiogakure): Located in the Land of Whirlpools (an island southeast of the Land of Fire). It was the homeland of the Uzumaki Clan, destroyed due to the fear other nations had of their sealing techniques. Hidden Valley Village (Tanigakure): Located in the Land of Rivers. Based in neutral or peripheral countries, many of them played key roles in the ninja wars.

Hidden Rain Village (Amegakure): Located in the Land of Rain. It is a vast industrial metropolis with metallic skyscrapers, situated right in the middle of three of the great nations. Hidden Grass Village (Kusagakure): Located in the Land of Grass. Its geography is notable for its wide valleys and strange formations of carnivorous plants and bamboo forests. Hidden Waterfall Village (Takigakure): Located in the Land of Waterfall. It is camouflaged behind a colossal waterfall. It is the only minor village to have sheltered a Tailed Beast (the Seven-Tails). Hidden Sound Village (Otogakure): Originally founded in the Land of Rice Fields by Orochimaru. It has multiple laboratories and hidden underground bases in different countries. Hidden Hot Springs Village (Yugakure): Located in the Land of Hot Springs. It was a ninja village that decided to abandon the path of war to become a peaceful tourist destination. Hidan comes from here. Hidden Lock Village (Jōmaegakure): Located in the Land of Keys. It is a village specializing in espionage and data encryption. Hidden Star Village (Hoshigakure): Located in the Land of Bears. It is built around a crater formed by a radioactive meteorite. Hidden Handicraft Village (Takumi no Sato): Located in the Land of Rivers. It is a settlement dedicated exclusively to the forging and manufacture of ninja weapons. Nadeshiko Village: Located on a coastal island near the Land of Water. It is a village composed exclusively of female ninja. Hidden Smoke Village (Kemurigakure): Located in the Land of Fire (specifically in a minor mountainous area). Its ninja specialized in smoke screen tactics.

In the Naruto universe, military forces are organized into Hidden Villages (Kakure Sato), which are scattered across a supercontinent ruled by different feudal lords (Daimyō). There are over 30 villages registered throughout the franchise, divided between major powers and smaller or obsolete villages. The Five Great Shinobi Villages

They are the military capitals of the most powerful nations on the planet. Their leaders are the only ones who hold the title of Kage. [1, 2]

Hidden Leaf Village (Konohagakure): Located in the Land of Fire. It is a forested region with a temperate climate in the center of the continent. Hidden Mist Village (Kirigakure): Located in the Land of Water. It is an archipelago of mountainous islands covered by a dense mist, to the east of the continent. Hidden Sand Village (Sunagakure): Located in the Land of Wind. It is situated in a deep desert canyon protected by natural rock formations. [1] Hidden Stone Village (Iwagakure): Located in the Land of Earth. It is surrounded by imposing stone mountain ranges that act as natural defenses to the northwest. [1] Hidden Cloud Village (Kumogakure): Belongs to the Land of Lightning. It is built directly on high mountains that scrape the clouds, located on a peninsula to the northeast. [1, 2, 3] Hidden Mist Village (Kirigakure): Located in the Land of Water. It is an archipelago of mountainous islands covered by a dense mist, east of the continent.

The first clans in the Naruto universe (such as the Otsutsuki, Senju, Uchiha, and Hyuga) originated after Kaguya Otsutsuki arrived on Earth. Her direct descendants inherited chakra and developed unique genetic and ocular characteristics, passing them on to their families and giving rise to the first bloodlines, or clans. During the Warring States Period, people with chakra abilities organized themselves into extended families, or clans. These groups functioned as mercenary factions hired by feudal lords to fight in territorial wars. The clan model changed radically when the Senju and Uchiha clans (descendants of the Sage of Six Paths' sons, Asura and Indra) made a truce and founded the first Hidden Village: Konohagakure. Later, this system of uniting clans under a single banner was adopted by other nations to create the Five Great Ninja Villages.

Known as the Sage of Six Paths (Rikudō Sennin), Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki is the most revered figure in Naruto. Founder of Ninshū (the precursor to ninjutsu) and father of Indra and Asura, his legacy divided the Uchiha and Senju clans. Hagoromo and his twin brother, Hamura Ōtsutsuki, were born with immense chakra inherited from their mother, Kaguya. After discovering that their mother was harvesting humans through the Divine Tree, the brothers confronted her and succeeded in sealing her away, transforming her into the Ten-Tails. Hagoromo became the first Jinchūriki by sealing the beast within himself.

He traveled the world to restore peace by sharing Ninshū, a system designed to connect people's spiritual energies. In his old age, to prevent the Ten-Tails from causing havoc after his death, he divided the monster's chakra into nine separate beings: the Tailed Beasts (Bijuu). Abilities and Powers

Hagoromo is considered a divine being due to the immense amount of chakra he possessed from birth. Among his main characteristics are: [1]

Rinnegan: He was the first user to master this dōjutsu, granting him control over the five basic elements, the Six Paths Senjutsu, and the jutsu that creates all things. Six Paths Chakra: His mastery allowed him to remain a manifestation of pure chakra throughout time, enabling him to meet Naruto and Sasuke in his subconscious and grant them his power. The Third Shinobi World War was a war of attrition and resource scarcity that involved all the great ninja nations. It occurred more than a decade before the start of the main series and profoundly affected the generation of Naruto's parents. Its Origin and Causes As the economic and military power of the Five Great Shinobi Nations began to decline, the authority of their governments became fragile. Small skirmishes along borders quickly escalated due to conflicts over territory and resources, eventually spiraling into full-blown war. During this period, manpower shortages led villages to send very young children to the front lines. Key Moments of the Conflict The main confrontation occurred between Konohagakure (Village of the Leaf) and Iwagakure (Village of the Rock), using the Land of Grass as their main battlefield: [1] Battle of Kannabi Bridge: This was a decisive turning point. A young team led by Minato Namikaze was sent to destroy Kannabi Bridge, vital to cutting off Iwagakure's supplies. [1, 2] Obito's Sacrifice: On this mission, the team suffered heavy casualties. Obito Uchiha's apparent death and his awakening of the Sharingan marked the tragic fate of several characters and triggered events that would affect the entire story. The End of the War: Minato Namikaze's solo intervention—known as the Yellow Flash of Konoha—destroyed enemy reinforcements, forcing an armistice that gave Konoha the victory and ended the war. Minato Namikaze: He achieved legendary fame, which led to him being named the Fourth Hokage. The First Shinobi World War was the first global conflict between the Five Great Ninja Nations, sparked by the struggle for resources and the power imbalance following the creation of the villages. It erupted when the Kinkaku and Ginkaku brothers betrayed the Second Hokage and the Second Raikage, and concluded with an armistice that left the countries severely weakened. Following the founding of Konohagakure and the death of Hashirama Senju, the First Hokage distributed the Tailed Beasts among the nations to balance power and achieve peace. However, the ambition for resources and territory ultimately overwhelmed these efforts. The breaking point occurred during a peace treaty ceremony between the Hidden Leaf Village and the Hidden Cloud Village, when the Kinkaku Army ambushed the leaders of both villages, igniting the war.

Key People and Events

Tobirama Senju (Second Hokage): He played a pivotal role. To allow his team (including Hiruzen Sarutobi and Danzo Shimura) to escape the Gold and Silver Brothers, he sacrificed himself in battle and appointed Hiruzen as the Third Hokage before his apparent death.

Kinkaku and Ginkaku Brothers: Rogue Shinobi from Kumogakure who possessed the Nine-Tails' chakra and powerful legendary weapons of the Sage of Six Paths. Result and Consequences

The war devastated the ninja world, resulting in an armistice treaty since no nation had the resources or military strength to achieve a decisive victory. The fragile peace treaty lasted only about twenty years before the outbreak of the Second Shinobi World War. [1, 2]

Before the existence of organized clans, humanity lived in constant warfare. Over a thousand years ago, the arrival of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki from another world changed everything after she ate the fruit of the God Tree. Her sons, Hagoromo (the Sage of Six Paths) and Hamura, became the first humans to possess chakra, divided power, and founded the first bloodlines. The Divine Origin: The Sons of Hagoromo

After sealing his mother (who transformed into the Ten-Tails), Hagoromo divided the power of this beast and had two sons:

Indra: The eldest brother inherited his father's powerful chakra and eyes. His resentment at not being chosen as leader gave rise to the Uchiha clan.

Ashura: The younger brother inherited his father's physical strength, life energy, and willpower, giving rise to the Senju clan.

Both lineages clashed in a centuries-long war of hatred and reincarnation. Before the creation of the Hidden Villages, the world was inhabited by dozens of independent mercenary clans. These groups were hired by different countries to fight in wars. The clans operated like isolated families, where children were trained from a young age to kill and survive. [1, 2, 3] The most famous and bloodiest war was the one waged for generations between the Uchiha and the Senju. During this conflict, the loss of life was massive, and entire clans disappeared or were annihilated. The Warring States Period: The Truce That Changed the Ninja World. Sixty years before the main events of the series, the Senju leader, Hashirama, and the Uchiha leader, Madara, tired of senseless death, forged a peace alliance. This union allowed for the creation of the first great ninja political system and the founding of Konohagakure (the Hidden Leaf Village). Later, other great nations imitated this model, transforming independent clans into the system of military villages seen in the series.

Theater of Operations: The Land of Rain (Amegakure) served as the main battlefield, leaving its lands and inhabitants devastated. After surviving his powerful poison, Hanzō bestowed upon them the title of "Legendary Sannin." The White Fang: In this war, Sakumo Hatake (Kakashi's father), known as the White Fang of Konoha, distinguished himself. His fame on the battlefield eclipsed even that of the Sannin, and he was the one who eliminated Sasori's parents. The Tragedy of the Orphans: A direct result of the massacres in the Rain, children like Nagato (Pain), Konan, and Yahiko were orphaned, which propelled their later path in the creation of Akatsuki. Kamizuru Clan

Main article: Kamizuru Clan The Kamizuru clan (上水流一族, Kamizuru Ichizoku) was a clan of bee users from Iwagakure that was once very well known and revered. Suzumebachi states that the First Tsuchikage was a member of the clan.

Kaguya Clan

Main article: Kaguya Clan The Kaguya clan (かぐや一族, Kaguya Ichizoku) is an extinct clan, known for its savage battle tactics and archaic values, and as descendants of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, a select few have inherited a derivative of her original ability to manipulate a person's bone structures.

Kagetsu family

Main article: Kagetsu family. The Kagetsu family hails from the village of Motoyoshi in the Land of Fire. They were originally simple herb sellers who, though poor, lived happily and joyfully. When they discovered the value of the herbs that grew in the surrounding mountains, the family became wealthy.

Jūgo's clan

Main article: Jūgo's clan. This clan is an unnamed family originating from an unknown region. Its members possess the innate ability to absorb natural energy from their surroundings due to their unique bodies. However, the adverse effects of this energy cause sudden and uncontrollable episodes of madness, leading them to sporadically lose control. Their unique bodies also secrete special fluids that allow them to undergo various drastic physical transformations.

Izuno Clan

Main article: Izuno Clan The Izuno Clan (伊豆野一族, Izuno Ichizoku) is a shinobi family in Konohagakure known for their use of cat-inspired ninjutsu.

Ryū Clan

Main article: Ryū Clan The Ryū clan (龍一族, Ryū Ichizoku) was once a powerful clan of Dragon Guardians entrusted with the safekeeping of the Dragon Sword. Onikuma Clan

Main article: Onikuma Clan The Onikuma clan (鬼熊一族, Onikuma Ichizoku) is one of the many clans residing in Konohagakure. They utilize a Hiden jutsu described as a possession-type summoning technique. Kumanoi Clan

Main article: Kumanoi Clan The Kumanoi clan (熊胆一族, Kumanoi Ichizoku) was a clan from the Howling Wolf Village. They accidentally discovered a blue fire powder while searching for a medicine that would grant eternal youth.

Kohaku Clan

Main article: Kohaku Clan The Kohaku clan (Kohaku Ichizoku) was a shinobi clan that had a village near the border of the Land of Fire with Amegakure. This village was one of the many villages attacked by Furido's Four-Man Team, and all the villagers were subsequently massacred using Limelight.

Kodon Clan

Main article: Kodon Clan The Kodon Clan (虎呑一族, Kodon Ichizoku) is a clan from the Howling Wolf Village. They are able to produce a medicinal form of saigenzai known as Kotarō within their bodies; although only Kodon can do this, it is not a kekkei genkai. They sell Kotarō at their shop, Rengyōdō (連翹堂, which literally means: Hypericum Shrine).

Kazekage Clan

Main article: Kazekage Clan This shinobi clan from Sunagakure has a great influence in their village. [14] Their true surname is unknown.

Karatachi Family

Main article: Karatachi family. This family was a group of people from Kirigakure that produced renowned shinobi. One of its members, Yagura, became the Fourth Mizukage. He used fear to rule the village and cemented Kirigakure's reputation as the "Village of the Bloody Mist."

Shimura Clan Main article: Shimura Clan The Shimura Clan (志村一族, Shimura Ichizoku) is a shinobi clan from Konohagakure. shiin clan Main article: Shiin Clan The Shiin clan was a small shinobi clan from the Land of Rice Fields,[22] where Orochimaru established the Land of Sound. Despite their size, they were renowned throughout the country for their high ideals and unwavering determination. After the founding of Otogakure, all skilled members joined Otogakure, and when the country's daimyo stopped recruiting them, their leader, the Shiin, set his sights on a gold mine near the country's border as a way to support his clan. Senju Clan Main article: Senju Clan The Senju clan (千手一族, Senju Ichizoku) was one of the clans responsible for founding the first shinobi village: Konohagakure, the other being their rival, the Uchiha clan. Although the clan itself no longer appears to exist as a group, the Senju continue to influence Konoha's politics through their Will of Fire philosophy and their corresponding interpretation of the Hokage role. In fact, three Senju have held the position of Hokage. Clan Sendō Main article: Sendō Clan The Sendō Clan (仙道一族, Sendō Ichizoku) is a clan from the Howling Wolf Village led by Jiryū Sendō. Jiryū formed the clan after the village declared its neutrality in all conflicts. He gathered many of the village's former shinobi, who had become unemployed due to the neutrality, and created a criminal gang that primarily trafficked in saigenzai, a popular hallucinogen. Rinha Clan Main article: Rinha Clan. The Rinha clan (Rinha Ichizoku) was a clan specializing in medical ninjutsu. They performed admirably in past wars. One survivor named Malice was the clan's best.

Yota's Clan Main article: The clan of Yota. This nomadic clan had the ability to manipulate the weather, which they used for their business. Yoimura Clan Main article: Yoimura Clan The Yoimura clan (宵村家, Yoimura-ke) is a clan that resides in the village of Daidai. Wasabi Family Main article: Wasabi Family The Wasabi family (ワサビ一家, Wasabi Ikka) is a clan from the Land of Tea. They are one of the two clans that wish to control the port of Degarashi. Wagarashi Family Main article: Wagarashi Family The Wagarashi Family (ワガラシ一家, Wagarashi Ikka) is a clan in the Land of Tea. They are one of the two clans that want ownership of the port of Degarashi. Tsuchigumo Clan Main article: Tsuchigumo Clan The Tsuchigumo Clan (土蜘蛛一族, Tsuchigumo Ichizoku) is a clan that formed a pact with the Third Hokage during the Third Shinobi World War. The clan's leader at the time, En no Gyōja, developed a technique capable of wiping out an entire village. Under the terms of the pact with the Third Hokage, En no Gyōja forbade the technique in exchange for Konoha's protection in times of need. Tenrō Clan Main article: Tenrō Clan The Tenrō Clan (天狼一族, Tenrō Ichizoku) is a clan of shinobi who come from Yumegakure. Taketori Clan Main article: Taketori Clan The Taketori Clan (竹取一族, Taketori Ichizoku) is a clan, presumably from outside Konohagakure. While not much is known about them, this clan appears to have close connections with the Hyūga clan for political matters, according to Natsu Hyūga. Shirogane Clan Main article: Shirogane Clan The Shirogane Clan (白銀一族, Shirogane Ichizoku) was a puppet clan from the Land of the Wind.

Iburi Clan

Main article: Iburi Clan The Iburi Clan (イブリ一族, Iburi Ichizoku) was an isolated clan that lived underground in the Land of Fire. They had the ability to transform into smoke at will and still be able to physically interact with the world around them. However, this ability was imperfect, causing them to occasionally transform involuntarily. In their smoke form, they were vulnerable to the wind, which would cause them to disperse permanently and die. Hoshigaki Clan

Main article: Fūma Clan The Fūma Clan (風魔一族, Fūma Ichizoku) is a renowned ninja clan distantly related to the Uchiha Clan, famous at least in Amegakure and the Land of Fire. They are known for being an aggressive clan and fight using their characteristic giant Fūma shuriken; a large, four-bladed weapon said to possess exceptional sharpness.

Main article: Hagoromo Clan The Hagoromo clan (羽衣一族, Hagoromo Ichizoku) is one of the oldest clans that existed during the Warring States period preceding the creation of the Hidden Villages. Although little is known about them, they were one of the warring factions alongside the Uchiha clan to oppose the Senju clan in battle, an alliance that led to the death of Kawarama Senju, along with many of his members. Hatake Clan

Main article: Hatake Clan The Hatake Clan (はたけ一族, Hatake Ichizoku) is one of the many clans residing in Konohagakure. Its only known members are renowned ninjas: the White Fang of Konoha (木ノ葉の白い牙, Konoha no Shiroi Kiba), Sakumo, and his son Copy Ninja Kakashi (コピー忍者のカカシ, Kopī Ninja no Kakashi). The latter would later become the Sixth Hokage after the end of the Fourth Shinobi World War.
