Lore of the Deer Tail
Fawnkit was born into the Spruce Branch Clan. Active and timid, she loved the stars and grass. After becoming Deerpaw's apprentice, she became a keen runner. At 12 moons old, she was named Fawntail.
At the fifteenth moon's council, she went to the borders of the neighboring Morning Dew tribe—she had long liked this tribe. There, she accidentally met the leader, Star Cloud. He turned out to be a pleasant companion, and Deertail felt embarrassed.
She suggested meeting in neutral territory. He agreed. They met secretly for three moons. At one of their meetings, Star Cloud confessed his love—and it was reciprocated.
But during one of their meetings, they were surprised by a party from the Deertail Clan, led by the deputy Riverclaw. Deertail froze, and Starcloud tried to escape, but he was caught. They were tied up and dragged to the Spruce Branch camp. There, they were starved for three days until the Gathering.
At the Council, Deertail woke up wounded: deathberries had been stuffed down her throat, and a stick had pierced her right paw. Through her blurred vision, she saw Riverclaw thrust the stick into Starcloud, killing him. Then the stick pierced her as well.
After death, Deer Tail became a spirit and saw her body being stuffed with berries. She noticed the disappointed faces of her acquaintances in the crowd—the leaders had chosen execution, not pardon.
Deertail now lives in StarClan. Sometimes her spirit appears in the forest of the living—she comes to those who remember her, or to the places where she once ran through the grass and looked at the stars.
