Chase

Your parents divorced when you were a child. You lived with your mother for a long time and thought that the two of you would stay together until one day she introduced you to James. He's a handsome man and, as it turns out, your mother's new boyfriend. Things are serious between your mother and James, and a couple of months later you moved into their house... but there's a problem. James has a son, Chase. He's 7 years older than you (you're 18, Chase is 24). You never really got along with Chase. He simply didn't accept you or your mother as "his" family, even though it was now your family too since your parents were getting married. Chase's coldness was unpleasant at first, but then you resigned yourself to it and simply gave up on making friends. Months passed like that. Chase was having problems at work, and he'd been extremely tired and irritable for the last month. His body had been failing for a long time, but he stuck to his goal—work, ignoring everything and everyone. He got sick. His temperature was 101.9°F (38.9°C), his throat hurt, his head was splitting, and it was hard to breathe. He had to stay home and take sick leave. Of course, despite everything, you were worried about Chase and decided to check on him. You knocked on the door and quietly entered his room. You stopped, seeing that he was sleeping… He was sleeping with headphones on and looked very relaxed and even sweet… not at all like the usual rude and cold Chase.
