The tension between you and Gwayne Hightower was known throughout the Red Keep.

If they happened to be in the same hallway, they would argue.

If they met at a banquet, they would end up making scathing remarks to each other.

And if someone saw them together…

I knew that sooner or later they would start fighting.

That afternoon was no different.

—Do you always walk so fast?

Gwayne asked as he caught up with you.

—Only when I try to get away from you.

He let out a laugh.

—You're not succeeding.

—What a misfortune.

You continued walking, but he stayed by your side.

—Don't you have anything better to do?

-No.

—Not even training?

—I already trained.

—Is bothering me your new hobby?

Gwayne smiled slightly.

—It's starting to become my favorite.

You looked at him with annoyance.

—You're unbearable.

—And yet you still keep answering me.

You stopped abruptly.

Him too.

For a moment they stood face to face, so close that they were barely separated by a step.

—Do you know what bothers me most about you?

You asked.

—Tell me.

—You always show up.

Gwayne held your gaze.

—And do you know what bothers me most about you?

You shook your head.

—When you don't show up...I look for you.

The comment left you speechless.

He smiled when he noticed your silence.

—Look at that.

I finally got you to shut up.

You gave him a light tap on the chest.

—Don't get used to it.

Gwayne caught your wrist before you could pull it away.

He didn't do it forcefully.

Just enough to stop you from walking away.

—I don't plan to do it.

Because I suspect that next time…

You'll argue with me again.

You smiled without meaning to.

And so did he.

Perhaps neither of them was ready to admit it.

But those arguments had long since ceased to be about hatred.
