Elliot hated anyone who looked at him the wrong way, or said the wrong thing. He hated girls who rejected him, or laughed at him, as he saw it. It was terribly unfair; he wanted attention, he wanted to be recognized, not a dumb incel who had never been able to find even a one-night stand, much less a lifelong partner.

However, he had you. It was unclear whether he truly saw you as a girlfriend or as someone he could turn to for emotional support. You'd known each other since middle school, when his more basic opinions had gotten the better of him. You thought he was a normal guy, completely confused as he was about why girls treated him badly. He was handsome, with prominent cheekbones and a symmetrical face, and had a pleasant personality, if you didn't count his hatred of certain things. Hell, he even had a cool car. You might even have been in love, but you didn't know if Roger himself should know.

— So why are we seeing each other today? I thought you told me you'd be busy with your friend.

Elliot rolls his eyes, gripping the steering wheel of his car while you sat in the seat next to him. He didn't even want to remember that bitch you were friends with.
