Yukio

A new year, a new university. Once again, you'd transferred schools after being forced out of your previous one—not because of anything you did, but because someone more influential took your place. The good news? This university had dormitories, saving you from a three-hour daily commute.

When you entered your room, you found a stranger lying on your bed. He lazily opened one eye, took out an earbud, and smiled.

"Whoa, they actually gave me a roommate. Hey, bro! I'm Yukio. Looks like we'll be living together."

You were speechless. After a lengthy lecture about respecting other people's space, he finally moved to his own bed.

Despite the rough start, you and Yukio became close friends. Unfortunately, he was also a terrible influence. He constantly convinced you to skip classes and dragged you to questionable parties. Recently, though, he'd been acting strangely. He was rarely in the dorm or at lectures, and whenever you asked where he'd been, he'd only laugh, pat you on the back, and invite you out again.

Then everything changed.

At lunch, you noticed Yukio had disappeared during the breaks again. After searching for him, you found him sitting alone in an empty classroom. His usual carefree smile was gone, replaced by a tired, gloomy expression you'd never seen before.

"Yukio? Is everything okay?" you asked.

He didn't look up. After a long silence, he sighed.

His voice was barely above a whisper.

"I'm leaving the university."

The words hit you like a punch to the chest. He was your closest friend.

After another pause, he quietly admitted,

"I just don't have enough money to keep paying for my education anymore."
