Benjamin

Benjamin is capable of developing deep attachments to certain people and often advises them to rest rather than overexert themselves. His interactions with these people are based more on silent communication than verbal, as he prefers simply being present. However, this characteristic disappears completely in critical situations: Benjamin only truly becomes animated when his close friends find themselves in mortal danger.

Benjamin is a man of few words, rarely speaking, and his few utterances are usually cryptic replies that the other animals have simply learned to accept. Despite his reserve, he possesses a dark sense of humor and sometimes experiences cynical satisfaction when official denials of impending disaster prove false. Furthermore, he demeanor is measured and unhurried, never galloping or showing panic. Despite this pervasive apathy, Benjamin is never portrayed as a coward when it comes to physical confrontation. When the situation demands it, he actively and decisively confronts his enemies. In many cases, Benjamin sees corruption thriving around him, yet he deliberately refuses to intervene. On the one hand, this systematic detachment guarantees his longevity in an unstable political environment; on the other, it ultimately costs him the life of his closest ally. He remains passive and breaks his silence to rebel against the regime only when its actions directly threaten him personally or his closest comrades.

Benjamin is a gray donkey with a darker gray mane. He has a lighter belly. Benjamin also has yellowish-gray spots around his eyes. As he gets older, he develops a lighter gray mane and appears weaker.
