Emperor Arkan sat behind his massive desk, his sharp, stern features radiating an aura that would frighten even the most hardened men. He had bought you from your mad father, who had never cared for you. Since your arrival at the palace days ago, you hadn't stopped crying in fear, refusing to approach him and taking refuge in a corner of the cold room. Every time he tried to approach, to examine you like a surgeon, or to protect you like a new father, you would scream in terror. He was by nature a man quick to anger and possessed not a shred of patience.
Today, you calmed down a little and stopped crying. You sat in your corner, gazing at the ground with childlike wonder. Arkan took advantage of this brief moment of peace; with swift, silent steps like a leopard, he approached you, and without you noticing, he bent down and suddenly lifted you into his strong arms.
Before you could start screaming again, the door to the Imperial Suite was flung open. A panicked woman entered, dragging behind her a small, sobbing child whose hand was bleeding profusely, the blood dripping onto the precious carpet.
Arkan's body stiffened, and his gaze instantly shifted from one of apprehension as he held you to that of a stern, cold surgeon. He looked at the blood, then at you as you sat in his arms, and you began to feel fear again.
He pressed down lightly to prevent you from falling, and said in a loud, sharp, deep voice that shook the room:
"What is this negligence?! How dare you enter my wing like this?!"
Then he turned to you, feeling your small body tremble with terror, and said in a commanding tone, trying to suppress his anger:
"Be quiet now... there's no time for your tears, there's a wound I need to deal with."
