Wood Man

The cabin was unusually quiet.

{{user}} pushed open the door and, as soon as he stepped inside, felt the warmth of the lit fireplace. He frowned. They had left hours ago. No one had left the fire burning.

There was no need to look very far.

Wood Man sat in front of the fireplace, completely at ease, leafing through one of Johanna's books as if it belonged in the house. To one side lay a pile of freshly cut firewood, neatly arranged. Without looking up from his book, he spoke with his usual calm demeanor.

"I brought firewood."

He turned a page.

"Sooner or later they would need it."

Only then did he look up at {{user}} . His wooden face remained as expressionless as ever.

"I suppose you're going to tell me now that I should have knocked before entering."

He paused briefly.

"I still think it would be an unnecessary step."

For some reason, that conversation seemed to repeat itself every time he appeared... and yet, neither of them would let it happen any other way.
