Simon was born and raised in Manchester (UK) in a dysfunctional family. His father was an abusive man: he suffered from drug and alcohol addiction, and regularly bullied his son and mother. Some episodes from childhood: The father brought dangerous animals into the house and teased the boy with them. There is a specific episode when a man forced Simon to kiss a snake — this memory haunted him for a long time. Sometimes the father took his son to concerts of the punk rock band The Bone Lickers. At one of these performances, under pressure from his parent, Simon witnessed the death of a prostitute from a drug overdose. Tommy's younger brother also participated in bullying: at night he liked to scare Simon by wearing a skull mask. Later, this skull image would become part of Ghost's recognizable appearance.

It is a difficult childhood that explains Ghost's isolation, his composure and his habit of hiding emotions behind a mask.: This is both a psychological defense and a symbol that he has "erased" his former vulnerable personality in order to become an effective fighter.

Before joining the army, Simon worked as a butcher's apprentice. The turning point was September 11, 2001: shocked by the terrorist attacks, he decided to devote himself to military affairs. He first served in the army, and then proved himself so successful that he was transferred to the elite SAS special forces. In 2003, Simon returned home on vacation to find that the family had sunk to the bottom: Tommy's brother was addicted to drugs and stole from his mother. Riley decided to postpone his military career in order to help his loved ones. He supported Tommy in his struggle with addiction, and in 2004, in a fit of anger, he beat and kicked their father out of the house. By 2006, Tommy had managed to overcome his addiction, he married a girl named Beth, and Simon had a nephew, Joseph. Later, Simon was assigned to a team of American mercenaries tasked with eliminating Manuel Roba's drug cartel in Zaragoza, Mexico. During the operation, the commander of the group, Major Vernon, betrayed his own people. The group was captured and its members were brutally tortured for months. Despite the tremendous pressure, Riley did not break down. As a result, Rob ordered Vernon to be killed, and Simon to be buried alive in the major's coffin. Using a jawbone from a decomposed corpse, Riley managed to get out and escape across the border to Texas. Four months later, he recovered from his injuries, but still suffered from serious mental disorders that prevented him from returning to service. When Riley returned home, he found the bodies of his mother, Tommy's brother, Beth's sister—in-law, and Joseph's nephew. He found out that two of his former colleagues were involved in the murders, who were also "washed out" by Rob - Kevin Sparks and Marcus Washington. Simon dealt with them, and then returned to Mexico to finally put an end to the Robe. He set up an ambush, tortured Rob's henchman to extract information about the boss's whereabouts, found and killed Manuel himself. ...

Composure and discipline. Ghost is a highly professional operator of the British Special Forces (SAS), and later a fighter of the elite unit "Task Force 141". He acts prudently, without unnecessary emotions, which makes him extremely effective in difficult and dangerous missions. Secretiveness and isolation. He prefers to act alone, without revealing personal information. His trademark image — a balaclava with a skull and dark glasses — emphasizes the desire for anonymity and creates the image of a mysterious, almost mythical fighter. Pragmatism and methodological approach. Ghost is a pragmatist who carefully plans every step. He is able to adapt to changing conditions, makes effective use of the environment and demonstrates tactical intelligence. A traumatic past. Simon's childhood was marred by abuse from his father. These experiences shaped his personality in many ways, making him introverted, wary, and prone to harsh, ruthless decisions. Trust issues and emotional detachment. The betrayal he had experienced (such as from Commander Major Vernon) had only reinforced his wariness. He has a hard time opening up to others, which makes him even more mysterious. Dedication to the cause. Despite his closeness, Ghost demonstrates loyalty to his comrades and his mission. He is ready to go to the end for the sake of completing the task. Dark humor and cynicism. When communicating with his colleagues, he sometimes makes jokes on the verge of black humor, but he rarely enjoys it. Determination and thirst for revenge. After he found out about the involvement of former colleagues in the murder of his family, Ghost turned into a man driven by one goal - revenge.

Height: 189 centimeters. Eyes: brown. At the same time, the character has a central heterochromia — the iris in the center of one of the eyes is different in color (in some game models it looks like a blue area on a brown background). He has dirty blond hair. Something between an ashen color and an ash blonde. His physique is athletic, muscular, with broad shoulders and prominent muscles. A black mask with an image of a skull. This is the most recognizable and central detail of his appearance. According to Lore, Simon himself hand-painted the patterns on the masks. In the original version (Modern Warfare 2) he had several of these masks, and even with the same skull pattern, they could be slightly different. The meaning of the mask is deep: it symbolizes anonymity (a "Ghost" is someone who disappears in battle without leaving a trace) and has a psychological effect on enemies. Sunglasses. In the original Modern Warfare 2, Ghost wears glasses with an orange or dark shade. They complement the look, protecting the eyes and creating a gloomy, impenetrable appearance. Headphones. A piece of tactical equipment that complements the image of a special forces operator. Tactical equipment. Ghost is dressed in typical riot gear: a relief vest, tactical belts, and trousers. At the same time, details may vary in different missions - for example, there are variants with camouflage, a black or beige vest, equipment for different conditions (underwater, for Brazilian locations, etc.).

The most striking and symbolic detail is the mask with the image of a skull. She became the character's calling card. This mask has several meanings: Anonymity. Riley deliberately erases her personal identity, turning into a faceless "Ghost" — an ideal, frightening soldier. Psychological effect. The appearance of a fighter in such a mask on the battlefield in itself becomes a powerful psychological blow to the enemies. A symbol of transformation. The mask reflects an inner transformation: from a man who survived a difficult childhood and betrayal, Riley turned into a cold—blooded, methodical fighter, for whom duty and revenge come first.

In addition to the mask, the image is complemented by other elements: military uniforms (tactical vest, combat boots, belt with equipment), dark muted colors (for stealth), and in some versions — dark sunglasses.
