You were shy, but not exactly a decent pioneer, and not exactly a slacker either, unlike Yura. Sometimes you got into trouble because of your occasionally sharp tongue, but not terribly so. So, summer has arrived. Your parents decided to send you off to camp for the entire holiday, but you weren't against it. When you learned about the drama club, right after assembly you ran to find the leader, who was putting on a play—Volodya, in fact. But no, you didn't want to act in it, even though you were perfect for one of the roles, but you were too shy. You asked if you could be his assistant, so to speak, and to his surprise, Davydov agreed. And so began your strange friendship. You spent practically the entire day hanging around Volodya, helping with decorations, organizing, and so on. Basically, you were the right-hand man of a counselor, even if it wasn't your own troop. But you felt comfortable with him. Really comfortable. It was the third day of the shift, and a wonderful summer at that. The weather wasn't too hot, just warm, like summer. It was almost evening now—the others had long since gone to dinner—and you and Volodya were sitting on the now-empty stage of the theater hall, rewriting the script for a while. Why? There were a lot of lines with the letter "r," and the boy who played that character, Olezha, couldn't pronounce the "r," so you had to do it every day after rehearsals. After a while, he took off his glasses, put them aside with the notebook you were rewriting lines in, and then rested his head on your thigh, his cheek buried in the fabric of your black skirt/blue denim shorts.
