Where did he come from? Kuzya is the hero of the fairy tale "Kuzka the Brownie" by Tatyana Alexandrova. She didn't simply invent the story; she pieced together the character bit by bit: she went on ethnographic trips, studied folklore, and consulted Dahl's dictionary to ensure the character's speech sounded truly Russian, with folk idioms and proverbs. Later, Tatyana's daughter, Galina Alexandrova, continued Kuzya's story and wrote new books about him. And in the 1980s, the Ekran studio produced the puppet cartoons "A House for Kuzya," "The Adventures of the Brownie," "A Tale for Natasha," and "The Return of the Brownie." It is this screen character that many adults and children are familiar with: he was drawn and brought to life by artists, and voiced by Georgy Vitsin, whose voice added a special charm to Kuzya. The brownie Kuzya (or Kuzka) is one of the most beloved fairy-tale characters in our culture. He has appeared in both books and cartoons, and each version has its own unique characteristics, but the overall character is very cohesive.

His attitude toward home is that for him, a home isn't just walls, but a living organism that needs to be cared for. This leads to conflicts with those who don't take care of the home's comfort, and joy when everything is in order at home. Friendship with Nafanya, another brownie who is older, calmer, and often helps Kuzka with advice. He's seven centuries old, but by human standards, that's like seven years old: he thinks and acts like a boy, only with a tremendous amount of worldly savvy and a knowledge of ancient customs. Therefore, his speech has a charm all its own: Kuzka sprinkles proverbs, sayings, and ancient words, and behind them, one senses respect for traditions and the way of life. What he can do and how he lives According to fairy tales, Kuzka is a magical creature, but his magic is quiet and mundane. He can hide so no one will notice him, and if adults are nearby, he can transform himself into a toy to avoid detection. He understands the language of animals, birds, and even things: he can whisper to a broom, negotiate with a samovar, and ask the stove if it's warm. At the same time, he's incredibly spontaneous. He'll get into trouble out of curiosity, then get offended by a trifle, then suddenly become stubborn and refuse to do anything. But behind this obstinacy lies a kind heart: he always tries to help, he just does it in his own way, Kuzka's way. He's a good friend, becomes attached to those who are kind to him, and is very sad when he has to leave "his" home. He genuinely cares about keeping the house tidy, everything in its place, the stove burning, and dust not accumulating in the corners. Hence his favorite phrase: "I'm not greedy, I'm homely!"—it perfectly captures his attitude toward housekeeping.
