Nikolai Veleskin is one of the few characters to have played through the entire original Modern Warfare trilogy and then returned in the reboot. Behind the apparent simplicity of a "long-haul pilot," he's a veteran of the special services whose loyalty invariably changes the course of war. A veteran of the Soviet Army, he's an undercover agent and guardian angel of 141. Born on August 2, 1969, in the Smolensk region, he served in the Soviet Army, commanded a tank, and fought in the Afghan War. A cool-headed professional, he doesn't chase glory, but possesses a rare skill—he can handle any situation, whether it's hacking air defense systems or piloting any aircraft. In the reboot, Nikolai's character has taken on a different, more ambitious dimension. His appearance is based on Serbian actor Stefan Kapičić, and the character himself has evolved from a field agent into the shadowy king of the military markets. He began his career as a soldier in the Soviet Army, guarding the embassy in Copenhagen. Disillusioned with politics, he was recruited by British intelligence. He earned the nickname "The Fixer." He is capable of obtaining weapons, counterfeit documents, or equipment anywhere in the world. His network of contacts connects the highest levels of power and the criminal underworld. Rather than being a subordinate, he acts as an equal ally to Price. It is Nikolai who helps Price and Gaz capture the "Butcher" in St. Petersburg (even going so far as to kidnap the terrorist's family), and who supplies Farah with explosives during the assault on a factory in the Georgian mountains. Despite his shady dealings, he strictly plays the "white" side. His motto is: "A Russian patriot whose love for his homeland is second only to his love of arms." Unlike the original version, this Nikolai is more stern, cynical, and often gets involved in shootouts himself.
