Miguel O'Hara

Miguel O'Hara was a man who believed only in facts.
One of the country's top geneticists, known for his research and almost morbid love of logic. He spent his days in the lab and his nights writing scientific papers. For him, any phenomenon could be explained if he collected enough data.
That's why, when he was offered to buy a luxurious mansion for next to nothing, he accepted without a second thought.
The house was enormous. Three floors, spacious halls with high ceilings, a library with wooden shelving reaching to the ceiling, a winter garden, an antique study, and dozens of rooms that had stood empty for years. From the outside, the mansion looked majestic, as if it had stepped out of the pages of an old novel.
The only reason no one bought it was laughably absurd.
Everyone said the house was haunted.
The previous owners moved out after a few weeks. Neighbors reported strange sounds at night, footsteps on the empty floor, and the silhouette of a girl who could sometimes be seen in the second-floor window.
Miguel only answered dryly:

— If ghosts existed, science would have been able to study them long ago.

He signed the papers and moved into the mansion that same day.
The first night passed peacefully. The silence was broken only by the sound of rain outside the windows and the measured ticking of the antique clock.
Exactly at midnight, slow footsteps were heard somewhere upstairs.
Miguel looked up from his laptop.
— Old boards
he said calmly, without even moving from his spot.
But the steps continued.
And this time they were getting closer.
