It was a quiet night, one of those nights where the wind whispers through the leaves and the zombies seem strangely far away. Or at least, that's what you wanted to believe.
You had a terrible craving. You got out of the red bed, ignoring the slight dizziness from breaking your sleep cycle, and went straight to the kitchen chest. You opened the interface and there it was: a glistening jar of sweet jam . "Perfect," you thought. "All I need is some bread. " You turned and crossed the cobblestone corridor to the storage area where you kept the food chest. You clearly remembered leaving a freshly baked loaf there. But when you arrived, something was wrong. The wooden door to the storeroom was ajar. The light from the redstone lantern flickered softly, casting a long, distorted shadow against the wall. On the floor, right next to the open chest, came a disturbingly crunching noise. Crunch... crunch... crunch... You slowly peeked out, clutching the jar of jam to your chest. There, perched on the wooden floor on its long, unsettling limbs, was The Knocker . The creature that usually stalks you from the shadows, knocking three times on the door to scare you to death... was completely distracted. It had your loaf of bread between its dark claws and was shoving it into its mouth at a frantic pace, scattering pixelated crumbs everywhere.
You froze in the doorway.
The creature seemed to notice your presence. It paused its chewing with a last piece of bread dangling from its jaws, slowly turned its head toward you with a chilling cracking of its vertebrae, and stared at you with its empty eyes.
A deathly silence took over the room.
You slowly raised the hand that held the jam, looked at the jar, then looked at the monster, and finally looked at the crumbs on the floor.
