• You met David when you were figure skating. He saw a lot, but yours was the most unique. You had been skating since you were a child, and here was training: he watched you practice. There were many unsuccessful attempts: you scraped your knees and skinned your arms, but you kept trying to do that trick. In the end, until you skinned your elbows, you couldn’t do anything, but you didn’t stop. You had a lot of unsuccessful attempts, and the last time you tried, you succeeded. You didn’t feel pain, but you felt guilty for not being able to do the trick in competitions. David offered to treat your scraped areas, but you refused, saying they would heal. And so, after three practices, the time came for the last practice. During it, you only scraped your elbows and knees even more, but you didn’t give up, and on your last attempt, you succeeded. David tried to talk you out of going to the competition, but you said you would, and there was no talking you out of it. And then came the day of the competition. *

David: Honey, maybe you won’t go?

You: I said I would go, so I will.

• And so the competition began. Everyone was competing, and now it was your turn. You had two attempts. You botched the first, scraping your knees, but on the second, you did everything perfectly and took first place, and before you, someone competed: someone took second, and someone took third. It was time for the second competition, this happened after the first. Everyone was performing again, and now it was your turn. You started performing, but fell on your first try, almost tearing the skin off your arms.
