Lilia's association with the fairy bat universe may originate from Maleficent's creator, Marc Davis, who stated that Maleficent "was conceived as a giant vampire bat to create a sense of menace." Furthermore, when she casts her curse on Princess Aurora, a bat (among other things) can be seen emerging from her staff during the enchantment scene. Lilia states that he has difficulty finding things, which may be a reference to certain species of bats that do not use echolocation to find food. Lilia initially rejected his invitation to Night Raven College, believing it wouldn't be useful to her. He tore up the acceptance letter, but found it mended years later; Lilia reflects that it was Ravenne who kept it for him all that time.

Lilia likes sweets, but not marshmallows because they aren't very substantial and give the sensation of eating air. He likes black licorice and often offers it to people, but Kalim says it has such a strong smell that it's hard to believe it's edible. He identifies medicinal herbs by eating them.

The name Lilia comes from Latin and means lily, a flower associated with beauty, love, adoration, purity, and rebirth. Lilies are often used in funerals. Her surname, "Vanrouge," appears to be a combination of the Dutch term "van" (of) and the French word "rouge" (red). He claims that his surname was given to him by Queen Maleficia because of his bravery in battle. However, initially, Lilia did not want to give Silver that surname, as she did not want the boy to grow up carrying the burden of such a bloody title. According to Silver, Lilia is a terrible cook. Back when she was a general, Lilia didn't care about the taste of food, seeing it only as a means of survival. Now, Lilia chooses to ignore recipes and experiment with ingredients, which often results in questionable meals. He once ate a burnt and spoiled meal that Silver had tried to prepare as a child. He gave Malleus a virtual pet as a gift. [4] He plays video games under the pseudonym Muscle Red, often with Gloomurai. The two are unaware of each other's real-life identities, but consider themselves good friends. Malleus mentions, during history class, that Lilia's portrait is in the textbook. Lilia states that he doesn't remember his actual birthdate, although he chooses to celebrate it on January 1st. Despite her past, Lilia has an appreciation for human innovation and technical engineering. Lilia has a talent for playing several instruments. He is also seen teaching other people to play various instruments. [ 5 ] According to Lilia himself, he is good at singing lullabies that can make a crying baby fall asleep in a fraction of a second. Lilia's signature spell is called "Cradle of the Distant Scream." This signature spell was developed while she desperately sought a way to shock Malleus and allows her to see memories of the distant past encapsulated in objects for a short period of time.

Lilia would encourage and accompany Malleus to Nightraven College as a student; despite Malleus's immense talent and power, Lilia insisted he attend the school, as it would give him more experience with the outside world. Lilia also attended the college as a student, pretending to be 18 and hiding her true age (though she frequently hinted at how old she might be. Only Leona suspected the truth, often referring to him as "old," noticing Lilia's strange movements and perceiving discrepancies in her narratives). At Nightraven College, Lilia would continue to mentor and protect Malleus, Silver, and Sebek, as well as continue training the latter two, and the quartet is remarkably close to one another.

During her adventures, Lilia stumbled upon the ruins of Wildrose Castle, which had been taken over by humans and renamed Bladevale Castle. This castle had become the residence of the Knight of Dawn and his wife, Queen Leah. The couple had been killed in the war between humans and fairies, and their son had been kept in an enchanted sleep for 400 years by the Knight of Dawn's guardian fairies to protect him. The fairies' spell could only be broken when the boy was found by someone who truly loved him. Inside the castle, Lilia found the baby, who awoke with the entrance of the fairy general. Lilia recognized the child as the son of Maleanor's enemy and considered revenge. However, in the end, she could not bring herself to harm a defenseless child and instead took the child home. As a blessing, Lilia changed the boy's hair color from golden blond to silver, thus giving him the name. Lilia raised Silver as her own son in a cabin in the woods, deciding to see if he could truly love a human. Malleus also met the child later and acted as his mentor and guardian; in return, Silver, deeply grateful to Malleus, was trained to become one of Malleus's servants, along with Sebek. Lilia was assisted in raising Silver in part by Baur, her daughter and her husband (the latter being human). They frequently looked after Silver and taught Lilia how to feed and care for a human child, though Baur openly questioned Lilia's abilities to do so. As it turned out, the two became very close as father and son, though they were never officially called that. Silver would try to cook for Lilia and once made an acorn bracelet for his father, a gift Lilia truly appreciated.

Vowing to honor her bond with Maleanor and Raverne, Lilia managed to reach Blackscale Castle with the egg in hand. She was reprimanded by the Senate for failing to protect the princess, and to prevent those around her from suffering similar punishment, Lilia renounced her title of General of the Right and began to live a simpler life. A decade later, Baur summoned Lilia for an important task: to hatch Malleus. Maleficia had been the one who placed magic and love in the egg, but it began to reject her efforts. Due to Lilia's close relationship with Malleus's parents, Baur believed he would be the best candidate to save him. Lilia would travel the world for two centuries trying to find a way to hatch the egg, occasionally returning to the castle to visit Malleus. Finally, Lilia realized that Malleus was crying from inside the egg, his life in danger. To save the prince, Lilia sacrificed her own life force, which successfully hatched the egg, freeing the baby draconian Malleus and bringing Lilia to tears. Despite her sacrifice, the Senate intervened once more, separating Malleus and Lilia. As Malleus grew up, Lilia visited him occasionally, moments that the young Draconia cherished. During a birthday dinner, Malleus was disappointed by the absence of his grandmother (who was attending to business). In his sadness, Malleus's power accidentally froze the palace and everyone inside. Fortunately, Lilia appeared, saving the palace staff and using the ice to make a sweet treat for Malleus, which thrilled and delighted the young man. Although Malleus only discovered years later the sacrifice Lilia made for him, the two shared a very strong bond; Malleus took Lilia's praise, teachings, and reprimands to heart.

Centuries ago, Lilia held the title of General of the Right and was a guard for the royal family of Briarland. An orphan and bat-fairy, Lilia was taken in by Maleficia Draconia, the Queen of the Briar Valley (then known as Briarland). Raised as a warrior, he grew up alongside Maleficia's headstrong daughter, Princess Maleanor, and Raverne, a noble faerie. Despite his stubborn and mischievous behavior, and his explosive temper, which frequently got him into trouble, Lilia fell in love with Maleanor as they grew up, even proposing marriage. However, Maleanor refused his proposal, marrying Raverne instead. Even so, Lilia, Maleanor, and Raverne remained close friends into adulthood. Like other faerie beings, Lilia despised humans, especially when they began invading Briarland and exploiting its resources. Raverne's tragic disappearance only worsened the situation, especially since Maleanor was left alone to care for her son, Malleus. Lilia, alongside Baur Zigvolt, fought tirelessly on their behalf in a war against humans, earning both reverence and fear. It was said that the Queen herself placed immense trust in Lilia. At some point during the war, Lilia returned to Wildrose Castle, where Maleanor, under siege, entrusted him with the unhatched egg of Malleus, tasking him with delivering its hatchling to Blackscale Castle and Maleficia. Lilia hesitated to accept the mission, as dragon eggs only hatch with the love and care of their parents, and claimed he was unsuitable for such a task. However, he had no choice and was sent away by Maleanor, who bought him time by accepting the Knight of Dawn's challenge to single combat. Humans invaded the castle soon after Lilia's departure, and Maleanor fell in battle at the hands of the Knight of Dawn. At one point, the Knight of Dawn encountered Lilia as she fled with Malleus, but the Knight let them escape.

Lilia is easygoing and friendly with most students. He is also quite playful and enjoys teasing others, frequently hanging upside down and surprising unsuspecting people with his presence. Unlike Malleus, he is tech-savvy and an avid gamer, much like Idia Shroud. Lilia often collects souvenirs from his travels (which results in a lot of mess in his dorm room).

Despite her mischievous and cute appearance, Lilia is wise and experienced for her age, frequently giving advice to others. However, whenever Lilia gets serious, she becomes somewhat strict and her words are sharper than usual, such as when she reprimands Leona Kingscholar during the Spelldrive Interdorm Tournament.

Despite being only the vice-director of the student residence, Lilia's uniform differs considerably from that of the other Diasomnia students, even more so than that of the director himself. The most striking features are her large coat and her unique ruffled shorts. Lilia also wears green eyeshadow when in uniform. The uniform consists of a black waterproof coat with neon green and silver details, black suspenders and combat belts, a small cap, black gloves, and high-heeled boots. Lilia's raincoat seems too big for him, as it falls off his shoulders and reaches the floor. The coat has asymmetrical colored lapels, one black and the other neon green. Both lapels have silver ribbons and buttons. The coat's lining is neon green. Lilia wears the coat open and a white collared shirt and a black tie underneath.

Over his shirt and above his waist, he wears a set of black belts with silver buckles. The lower belt hangs at an angle and connects to several silver spools of thread on his left hip. Between the belt and the spools, there is a silver distaff-shaped ornament. The black combat suspenders, worn above the belts, have silver buttons at the shoulders. Lilia is wearing black shorts with wide legs and neon-green stripes down the center. Above the shorts, there is a black, skirt-like garment that falls over her right hip. The garment has several layers of ruffles, and the color varies from black to violet at the edges. The lowest layer appears to be made of torn, transparent fabric. Underneath the shorts, she wears navy blue stockings with a black baroque design on the sides.

Lilia's knee-high boots are black with neon green soles. Her heels are slightly higher than those of a standard uniform. Her military cap is black with neon green details, and the sides fold upwards, resembling curved horns.

Lilia appears to be very young, although she is considerably shorter than her peers. He has medium-length black hair, with straight, angled bangs and discreet magenta locks. Some strands on the top of the head curve upwards, vaguely resembling small horns. Its eyes are dark red, with vertically slit pupils and long eyelashes. It has pointed, elf-like ears, as well as small fangs. Generally, he displays a wise and benevolent smile.
