Limbus Company is a wealthy and enigmatic company "practically built on secrecy and suspicion".[2] The corporation has zero budgetary concerns,[3] and possesses backing from shareholders of a wide array of fields.[4] It consists of at least five different departments of varying specialties: the LCA, LCB, LCC, LCD, and LCE. These departments are said to lack a common goal,[5] but tend to behave in ways benefiting the LCB's amateurish adventures, such as planning out the Sinners' missions or cleaning up their messes after the fact. The company's only known corporate officer is its Chief Executive Director Dias.[6]

While the LCB's specific objective is to capture the Golden Boughs, the greater company finds its cause in the Distortion phenomenon, and considers itself an enterprise specializing in the research and maintenance of Distortions.[1] However, Abnormalities, EGO, Peccatula, and Monoliths are additional points of interest for Limbus Company.[7] Limbus Company is also noted to be talented in the realm of information-gathering.[8][9] Furthermore, Limbus Company operates as a business on the side,[10] and possesses a purchase catalog to offer to potential buyers.[11] Through this, the director of T Corp. Could buy all of the Monoliths Limbus Company had in stock at the end of Intervallo IV: Timekilling Time, regardless of Faust or Vergilius' personal feelings on the matter. It was also around this time that Limbus Company began making a small name for itself, to the point of P Corp.'s Cesara having heard rumors of the LCB before meeting them.

Ahab is a tall elderly woman with curly, mid-thigh length graying hair. Like her namesake, she has a black-and-gold peg leg starting from her left knee. She wears a green captain's jacket over an untucked button shirt and darker green pants, one leg of which is tucked into the prosthetic, a crooked captain's hat, white gloves and a thin belt around her midsection. On her back is a harpoon around her height with a narrow, transparent cylinder behind the tip and a loop at the other end. This cylinder contains a small flame, the intensity of which varies.

After being trapped in the Pallid Whale, Ahab gains Pallidification membranes across her entire body. Her peg leg is also modified to have a harpoon-like tip.

When using GasHarpoon, Ahab's left eye and arm are completely consumed by Pallidification, producing an oversized, white biomechanical arm with blue and red veins terminating in a harpoon. Additionally, she loses her captain's hat. Within the shoulder is the flame-bearing cylinder on her harpoon, whereas on her shoulder there are seemingly three crooked gas pistons, each bearing a monochrome face and ending in a lantern-like element with a luminous gas. Ahab uses these in battle to change the end of her mutated arm; doing so causes the corresponding piston to retract and the gas to transfer into her shoulder. Following her defeat, these pistons are snapped off and her shoulder displays its original orange flame.

Ahab's most defining feature is her extreme and single-minded desire to hunt the Pallid Whale, with little regard for anything else. Initially, she appears to be highly charismatic, bringing in and unifying individuals from all walks of life for the goal of hunting the Calamity. However, she is highly manipulative, egocentric and selfish, seeing her crew as nothing but a means to an end. Even pre-Pallidification, she kept an extremely tight hold on her crew, and later admitted that she cared not about their reasons or desires, believing that they should've

Nelly is an olive-skinned woman with long brown hair and golden-brown eyes.An extremely competent high-ranking Fixer in service of the Edgar family, Nelly is initially shown to be a very kind and understanding ally to the Sinners, accompanying them around Wuthering Heights as a guide. She is one of the few associated members of the manor who did not carry any personal ill will towards Heathcliff, yet was still coerced into some level of abuse by Hindley demanding her to neglect his care, showing she is fiercely loyal to her role as Butler.

Nelly is later revealed to have lied to the Sinners, having been not only completely aware of all the events that had transpired at the manor after Heathcliff's departure, but having been a catalyst for many of them. Having received a mirror from Hermann that showed her the possibilities of the Mirror Worlds, Nelly grew scared of suffering the same fate as her other selves, suffering due to the fall-out of Catherine and Heathcliff and being unable to live for herself. This caused her to grow bitter and resentful towards the world around her, eventually teaming up with the N Corp. Director to spur Catherine's death wish and supporting her in the creation of the laboratory.

Despite the resentment that lead her to conspire with Hermann, Nelly claims to carry no ill will towards Heathcliff and Catherine, fondly recalling the two's childhood and wishing for Heathcliff to know her actions are dictated not by contempt, but by her desire to be free and live the life she wishes. All through the events at Wuthering Heights, Nelly mantains a calm and polite demeanor with him and the Sinners, only truly breaking down when recalling the sorrow she saw through the Mirror.

After joining the New League of Nine Littérateurs, Nelly appears with her hair down, donning a blue headband tied with a red ribbon, and she wears an N Corp. uniform consisting of a long dark blue coat with red detailing with a matching skirt and vest, over a white shirt wi

The Jia family is a powerful family at the head of Hongyuan, which Hong Lu hails from. The Jia family is the most prestigious of the houses of Daguanyuan, their power having remained great and stable for many decades,[3][4] despite their glory having been overshadowed by the Kong Family for a certain period, around two decades prior to the events of the main story. The Jia family are renowned for their cunning, their skill in Bolus crafting[5] and their capacity for deception.[6] They are directly served by the Jialan Guards, who have sworn utter loyalty to the Family Hierarch and Daguanyuan.

As the most prominent family of Daguanyuan, the Jia family presented a large number of candidates for the Family Hierarch Evaluation. Among them, notable ones are Jia Huan, Jia Xichun, the Kong family remnant Jia Qiu, and the surprise entry Jia Baoyu, jade of the family. All four passed the first round of evaluation and survived the second. Jia Xichun placed first and obtained the title of Family Hierarch, with Jia Baoyu and Jia Huan respectively placing second and third.

Following Jia Xichun's victory, Jia Yuanchun conspired, together with the Shi and Xue families, to overthrow the results and seize the power in Hongyuan by force. After the conspiracy failed and Jia Xichun ascended to the throne, Jia Yuanchun made herself scarce.

Jia Huan is a tall, pale man with long dark hair, tied up in a ponytail with a red hairband. His hair is parted sharply in the middle, with the bangs framing his forehead and reaching to his ears. Jia Huan has bright red eyes.

He drapes a dark navy-blue uniform with red-accented lines and flowers over a black, high-collared coat. His coat reaches a bit past his waist while the uniform drapes down to his knees. His sleeves are thick and puffy, ending at his elbows to reveal tight black wrist armor and gloves. His ID tag hangs off the upper half of his left sleeve. He wears black pants and shoes. Both his shoes and coat are fitted with silver adornments, his coat having three, and his pants having two.

He carries around a long, dark purple sword in his left hand. The cross guard is decorated with small flowers similar to the ones on his uniform, and from the end of the hilt hangs a red rope ending in a tassel.

During Canto VIII: The Surrendered Witnessing, he wears the EGO gear of Spiral of Contempt, a black suit with yellow highlights, covered by a jagged-looking yellow coat with sleeves patterned similarly to the Abnormality's spirals. Additionally, he now wears a golden earring, which also resembles the Abnormality.

In the memories of Hong Lu's childhood, Jia Huan was shown wearing a qiyao ruqun, a waist-high hanfu consisting of a pale blue ru with golden detailing and a dark blue qun with a matching beizi. He wore his hair in a similar style, pinned by a light blue hair decoration.

Jia Huan flaunts a blunt, arrogant personality. He's mentioned to be notoriously unpleasant and violent, with Jia Xichun referring to him as "that asshole" and appearing surprised that Hong Lu came out of an encounter with him unscathed. Jia Huan has an utilitarian mindset, being a strong believer in the ends justifying the means, and finding Hong Lu and the Sinners' behavior hypocritical for choosing which lives and which deaths to fret over.

The Ring is a Finger focused on self-expression and the creation of artwork. The Ring focuses on visual mediums, namely paintings and sculptures. Ring paintings typically depict brutal violence, and Ring sculptures are usually comprised of corpses—and, occasionally, living humans.[14] The Ring manages art galleries across the Backstreets of the City. These galleries occasionally hold art auctions, hosted for high-ranking people, including Wing executives.[15]

The Ring is split into various schools of art, based on a real-life artistic style or movement. The schools of art are competitive, each viewing their own style as the correct method for creating art.[16] However, Ring members from different schools sometimes have to collaborate on assignments from superiors.[17] Civilians under Ring protection are also expected to complete assignments and show proper artistic aptitude, or risk removal of the Ring's protection, and execution if they repeatedly fail.

Recently, an unknown amount of the Pointillist faction of the Ring have split off, and created their own group.

Together, the Five Fingers control the Backstreets and prevent the Wings and Associations from interfering with those parts of the Districts, and even the Head cannot easily resist their control over the Backstreets.[2] In order to keep this level of control, the Fingers periodically meet together in a conference known as the “Finger Bow-Bell” to discuss how best to maintain their hold over the Backstreets.[2]

Most of the time, however, the Five Fingers are rivals to each other, and fight over territory and other disputes. As seen with the fall of L Corp., the Fingers are quick to move in and attempt to claim the Nest of a fallen Wing as their own.

Each Finger has a distinct culture, with a harsh set of rules they expect to be followed by anyone who work with them. Like smaller Syndicates, the Fingers offer protection to residents of the Backstreets at a cost, with the tasks expected of the person seeking protection varying from Finger to Finger. Additionally, other Syndicates can become subsidiaries of a Finger, giving them a powerful connection so long as they provide support to the Finger and follow the orders given to them.

Aseah is a tall man with long, black hair covering the right side of his face. It is tied back in a tall ponytail. He wears a smug expression on his face. He wears a high-necked black shirt beneath a standard uniform seen of members of Hermann's group within N Corp., with two large black belts diagonally across his undershirt.

In Leviathan, he looks largely the same, yet wears a lab coat seemingly provided by the Ring to all of the scientists enlisted under it.

Similar to most other members of the League of Nine Littérateurs, Aseah speaks cryptically a majority of the time, waxing poetry when confronted with others attempting to make sense of his actions. However, unlike others within his former group, he seems to have a greater focus on scientific achievement, rather than ethics or morality, having willingly chosen to experiment on orphans and civilians as means to accomplish his goal of expanding tech relating to the Mirror.

The League of Nine Littérateurs was a society of technology enthusiasts and scientists from District 19's Backstreets who migrated to Nest T to develop new inventions as a hobby. Mirror Technology, including the Glass Window and Yeonsim, were first developed by the League members.

After being betrayed by Dongrang, the group fell apart in a raid by T Corp. collectors and was separated, with most of the members going their separate ways.

In recent years, the New League of Nine Littérateurs was established in N Corp. under Hermann to further research the Mirror Worlds and continue developing and refining the Mirror technology that was created by the original League, as well as collect the Golden Boughs to power their experiments. This new group notably includes returning League member Gubo, who attempted to recruit as many of his former fellows as he could, such as Aseah and Yi Sang, and killed anyone who refused him. Yi Sang would eventually defect from N Corp.'s League and be invited to join Limbus Company.

Gubo is a stern-looking man with short black hair and dark red eyes. He wears round glasses, at times with red-tinted lenses. He appears in the N Corp. uniform of Hermann's team, consisting of a dark blue long coat with red plaid lapels; his company ID is attached to his left lapel. Underneath the company uniform, he wears a gray waistcoat over a white-collared dress shirt with a red tie, and a pair of gray pants with shoes to match.

In combat, Gubo wields a curved karambit knife.

During Canto VIII: The Surrendered Witnessing, he dons the EGO Gear of Der Fluchschütze, a brown suit similar to his normal outfit, and a tattered cloak. Additionally, crimson flames flow upward from his back.

Highly professional, Gubo is a man who acts through the path of least resistance, frequently choosing to avoid unnecessary conflict while still aiming for a positive benefit in his favor, such as his abiding of the Ring's customs in Leviathan, aiming less to respect them and more to act for his own benefit. He carries an aura of unflappability, cold and calculating to the world around him. This, however, is recognized by Vergilius to be a façade; even when attempting to appear collected, he is frequently displeased and uncomfortable with the situations that go against his favor.

In the past, Gubo was a notable loner, failing to fraternize with a majority of the League of Nine Littérateurs, despite a prolonged presence among them. Even with his solitude, he has a vested interest in Yi Sang, leading to him personally taking the responsibility of his fellow so that the latter may focus on research for N Corp. Upon Yi Sang's departure, Gubo remained composed and cold toward the man, though later reveals a more desperate side, frequently speaking down to his former compatriot and showing interest in his creations, going as far as attempting to reconvince Yi Sang to return to his side as a scientist.

Syndicate" is a purposefully vague and broad term that can be used to describe essentially any group of people who work together in an organized, but unregulated, group.[1] Syndicates can do all sorts of activities, and be involved in various types of business, leading to groups with very little in common both being able to be referred to as a Syndicate.[2] Some Syndicates focus on extorting money from people for protection, while others abduct people, kill for fun and pleasure, or do anything in between. They can be small groups that only exist in one corner of the Backstreets or large enough to exist in every District in the City. As many Syndicates operate as a business, they have the same rights and obligations as the other businesses of the City such as being able to hold patents on technology and needing to pay taxes.[3][4]

Many Syndicates have a culture focused around replicating family dynamics, and consider each other family, with some even referring to each other with familial terms.[5] This can result in Syndicates with a strict focus on respect for those who are higher ranked or in Syndicates who care deeply for each other and protect one another at any cost.

The Yurodiviye is a Syndicate led by Sonya, aiming to redistribute goods from the rich to the needy and prevent the concentration of wealth, rebelling against the fortune-based system of the City in an attempt to create a better world.

The City is split into 26 massive plots of land known as Districts, each of which is governed by a Wing and possesses unique culture, politics, and scenery. Districts are collectively split into the northern, southern, eastern, and western quadrants, and those belonging to the same region tend to share similarities, such as climate or style of dress.

Each individual District is divided into a Nest and Backstreets, which feature drastically different qualities of life and tend to be very visually distinct, but still operate under the same general culture and aesthetic defining of the District.

The Wings, also known as the Wings of the World, are a group of the 26 largest, most powerful conglomerates in the City. They act as the governing bodies of the respective Nests of the City's Districts. The Wings are directly ruled by the Head, the Eye, and the Claw, the enigmatic supreme authority of the City. Each Wing possesses and utilizes a Singularity, a form of technology that can blatantly violate the laws of physics.

Singularities are the unique, fantastical technologies the Wings make use of and thoroughly exploit in order to conduct their business. Many Wings hold the rights to more than one Singularity, whether invented by them or purchased from a fallen Wing. Partnering with other Wings to make use of their Singularities is also commonplace.

The details of a Singularity are incredibly valuable information that tends to be guarded deep within the Wing. However, the side effects or products of a Singularity are often widespread throughout the District, and play a large part in defining its culture.

Singularities are said to work "inexplicably" and defy all known laws of physics,[1] making them a mystique of the City.

A Nest is the segregated portion of a District, controlled by a major corporation known as a Wing. These areas are typically wealthier and overall easier to live within when compared to the Backstreets, that which encompasses every area that the Nest does not occupy.

The primary population of a Nest is composed on citizens of higher class backgrounds, those allowed through per relevant District laws, or 'feathers', the employees of Wings. While the Nest may be a place available for housing, its ultimate purpose is to protect the "eggs", the Singularities used by the conglomerates.

Sonya is a tall man of pale complexion. He has short, messy white hair that frames his face, with bangs swept over his forehead, and intense purple eyes. He wears layered clothing, consisting of a black vest and a gray tailcoat that reaches his calves, and white pants. He wears an ammunition belt around his right thigh, and a black belt around his waist and shoulder, from which hangs a long broadsword with a golden tassel. Around his neck hangs a pair of black-rimmed goggles with orange lenses, and he wears a black and white scarf around his neck and left arm, bearing the symbol of the Yurodiviye.

Sonya is a calm, composed individual who speaks in a temperate and confident manner. He is a well-read and intelligent man, as well as a proficient spokesperson capable of rallying people under a just cause unfitting of the City's usual cruelty. Rodion often thought of him sitting at his desk, immersed in his studies. Additionally, he is noted to have spread the Yurodiviye throughout every Nest in the City, possessing a wide variety of connections.

Despite his reserved attitude, Sonya possesses a great passion: a dream of destroying the systems of the City which exploit the lower class, offering true liberation to the misfortunate by distributing wealth to all of those in need. In the pursuit of this dream, he is more than willing to accept costs and losses—including the deaths of his own men—seeing them as inevitable sacrifices in the makings of progress towards his goal. In contrast to Rodya, who grew hotheaded and desperate in the face of her people's suffering, Sonya is characterized as exceedingly patient, calculating, and future-oriented. While Rodya criticized him for planning endlessly without actually helping anyone in need, Hermann instead considered Sonya to be unlike most idealists who are all theory and no action.

The Mirror Worlds are the collection of the infinite alternate realities that can be seen through the Mirror. These worlds vary from being nearly identical to the City that serves as the main setting of Limbus Company and Project Moon's other works to being nearly unrecognizable as the same universe.

Alongside the Mirror technology, the ramifications of Mirror Worlds are a main point of interest in Limbus Company.
Mirror Worlds can be discovered and interacted with through various means, such as through extraction via the engine of Mephistopheles or through gazing upon an item that uses Mirror technology. The outcome and the stability of the Mirror World observed can vary according to the wishes of the viewer.

Interacting with the Mirror Worlds can lead to psychological distress and hopelessness, as looking into such distant realities can cause in the viewer a feeling of inadequacy when compared to another world's self, or make them perceive themselves as unable to escape their fate.[1][2] The creation of the first device capable of looking into the Mirror Worlds, the Glass Window, was motivated by a desire to see into worlds where people and things that were dead in one world lived on in another.[3] This mindset was one rooted in grief, spurred on by personal loss, and all who first saw through the Glass Window and the Mirror were entranced by the possibilities that they showed, which appeared so distant from the world they lived in.[4][5]

Hermann is a tall, middle-aged woman. She has pale skin and olive-green eyes, and appears to wear dark lipstick and eyeshadow. Hermann has wavy, dark brown hair swayed to one side, reaching just beneath her chin.

Hermann wears a dark navy-blue uniform with red-accented lines, a white, collared shirt, and a bright red tie. The first part of her uniform is a large, navy-blue overcoat that is draped over her shoulders and extends down just below her knees. The second part is a single piece, navy-blue collared dress, with silver buckles on the lapel and silver chains connecting small buttons on the skirt. The dress is separated by a thick belt of similar color, with a large silver buckle and her ID tag attached to the loops. Hermann also wears navy-blue cuffed boots and darker blue, almost black leggings, and a dark turtleneck underneath her shirt.

While not visible in her basic sprites, she is noted to have flashy, painted nails, featuring a navy undercoat and what appear to be military awards atop. In Gregor's fathoms, her hands are shown, highlighting this fact.

A renowned scientist and current Director of a Wing, Hermann is a cunning woman, ruthless to anyone that stands in her way. She appears confident and cold-blooded, maintaining a serene expression and a calm demeanor in most situations.

As a former war-mongerer, she is the one responsible for gene-splicing the hapless feathers of Old G Corp. and ruining countless lives in the Smoke War. She maintains a mocking, yet affectionate relationship with her son and prized experiment, Gregor, whom she used as a poster boy for the war and continues to run his life—even after escaping her clutches.

A patient sort, she is a master manipulator and orchestrates numerous ploys the LCB face on their hunt for the Golden Boughs. Ultimately, she seeks to use their powers to destroy every Mirror World; for what reasons as to why, are currently unknown.

EGO (Extermination of Geometrical Organ) is a type of personalized equipment manifested from an individual's mind. They usually take the form of massively powerful weapons and/or armor.

The Mirror is a powerful piece of technology invented (or discovered, as he puts it) by Yi Sang and Young-ji. It allows for observation of and communication between Mirror Worlds. Through Mephistopheles, Limbus Company utilizes the device in order to equip different Identities onto Sinners in battle.

During one of the League of Nine Littérateurs' illuminators' conferences, Young-ji presented a small device connected to a glass pane, behind which he had positioned a dead chrysalis. Upon activating the device, the chrysalis seen through the glass appeared to revive, with a butterfly climbing out of the carcass. He explained the technology he'd developed was not equivalent to a resurrection, as the living image was instead overriding the real image, and it would only exist within the confines of the mirror.[1] Young-ji dubbed this creation the Glass Window.

The Glass Window would soon begin to catch the attention of researchers from all over the City, netting Young-ji official invitations to work for two different Wings, although he never disclosed which of them.

The New League of Nine Littérateurs is a faction based in N Corp., led by Director Hermann. Their goals and methods often align with those of Limbus Company, making use of EGO and carrying a vested interest in researching the Mirror. The New League directly contrasts the LCB in their search for the Golden Boughs.

The goals of the New League of Nine Littérateurs are largely unknown at this time, though the faction expresses clear interest in the search for the Golden Boughs. The New League of Nine Littérateurs is heavily involved in the study of Mirror technology and Mirror Worlds, with Hermann directing her researchers to find a way to destroy all the worlds and the possibilities reflected in the Mirror. Whether this is the ultimate goal, or a milestone in the process of achieving said goal, is currently unclear.

The New League, particularly Hermann, presents a recurring interest in researching and creating a form of pure human. The faction's experiments both in Wuthering Heights and in their headquarters involve making use of human subjects to produce a "dough", a pure being free of dregs upon which any Identity can be applied.[3] The doughs created as the result of these experiments appear to be masses of flesh. Upon being superimposed with an Identity, a murky mist will emerge, and the flesh will take the form of the Identity. A failed experiment will result in the dough not changing shape, but becoming animated. These doughs are used by the New League's members for physical training.

The New League's research aims to reach a point beyond the dough, to a form of primordial humanity, which is noted to be quite similar to the Imperial Worm carried by the Hongyuan Hierarch.[5] Despite this, it appears the ultimate endpoint of the experiments is known only to Director Hermann, and even the high ranking members of the factions are not privy to the details.
